The series' main protagonist, Ryuuji is a seventeen-year-old high school student in his second year, class 2-C. Due to biological inheritance, his sanpaku eyes make him look like an intimidating delinquent and causes many misunderstandings. He lives in a fatherless family with just his mother, and due to this, Ryuuji has learned to be self-sufficient. He is good at cooking and keeps everything in his house clean (to the point of obsession), and also excels at sewing. He holds a crush on [Minori Kushieda](https://anilist.co/character/12305), a girl in his class. He has a pet, parakeet named "[Inko-chan](https://anilist.co/character/17059)" ("inko" literally means "parakeet" in Japanese). Ryuuji often helps [Taiga](https://anilist.co/character/12064) with domestic chores which she is unable to perform. At school, he is known as "the only person able to stop the palmtop tiger", referring to Taiga's nickname. Due to the misunderstandings of his look, he tends to look down on himself and lacks self-confidence. Despite this, he is rather calm in most situations. He is responsible, smart and has great grades, even when compared to [Yuusaku Kitamura](https://anilist.co/character/12306), his best friend. He is dense when it comes to girls' feelings, especially about things between him, Taiga, Minori and [Ami](https://anilist.co/character/13725). His feelings and relationship to Taiga begin to change as he spends more time with her throughout the series.

Ryuuji Takasu is a gentle high school student with a love for housework; but in contrast to his kind nature, he has an intimidating face that often gets him labeled as a delinquent. On the other hand is Taiga Aisaka, a small, doll-like student, who is anything but a cute and fragile girl. Equipped with a wooden katana and feisty personality, Taiga is known throughout the school as the "Palmtop Tiger."
 
One day, an embarrassing mistake causes the two students to cross paths. Ryuuji discovers that Taiga actually has a sweet side: she has a crush on the popular vice president, Yuusaku Kitamura, who happens to be his best friend. But things only get crazier when Ryuuji reveals that he has a crush on Minori Kushieda—Taiga's best friend!
 
Toradora! is a romantic comedy that follows this odd duo as they embark on a quest to help each other with their respective crushes, forming an unlikely alliance in the process.

Yuusaku brings an extravagant bento box to share with the class, which makes Ryuuji feel inferior about his own bento making skills. Desperate to beat his bentos, Ryuuji obsessively tries to compete against them to the point where he even brings a rice cooker to school. After Taiga brings him some salty onigiri, Ryuuji realises that the true meaning of bentos is not the taste, but the feelings that are put into it.

3. Take a Look at My Lunch Box (&#20474;&#12398;&#24321;&#24403;&#12434;&#35211;&#12390;&#12367;&#12428;) 
Ten more shorter stories, each focusing on one or another of the Toradora characters. Takemiya declared it to be her last adventure in the world of Toradora.
