Formerly a junk dealer, Bit Cloud is forced to join the Blitz Team after he is responsible for damage to one of the team's Zoids during a match. Taken to the Blitz Team's base, Bit discovers that he is the only person capable of piloting the rare Liger Zero owned by the team's manager.

Zoids - powerful animal-shaped combat mechs - are no longer used in warfare, but in organized sporting competitions.  The Blitz Team, a group of pilots struggling to carve out a niche for themselves in the Zoid battling leagues, experience a stroke of luck when Bit Cloud, a vagrant junk dealer, wanders into their midst and proves himself capable of piloting the temperamental Liger Zero, a Zoid that refuses to let anyone else into its cockpit.  Led by Bit and the Liger, the Blitz Team steadily make their way to the top - but along the way they attract the unwelcome attention of the Backdraft Group, an organization of Zoid pilots that operates outside the laws set down by the Zoid Battle Commission.  The Backdraft want powerful Zoids to add to their ranks, and they have their eye on the Liger Zero...

On October 26, 2022, it was reported that Sakurai had been engaging in an extramarital affair with a writer of his *P.S. Genki Desu. Takahiro* radio program. A month prior, it was publicly disclosed that he had been married to a former voice actress for nearly 20 years, although the writer had allegedly not been aware of his marriage as they had been in a relationship for 10 years and intending to marry. On March 31, 2023, it was jointly announced with his talent agency "Intention" that they are ending their contract, as Sakurai requested to leave as a way of taking sole responsibility of his actions and for self-reflection.
