An orphaned girl who goes to the same school as Ushio, Asako and Mayuko. Her father was very overprotective of her, and when he died he became an oni, causing danger to any boys who took the slightest fancy of her. This distressed her greatly, and she tried to commit suicide many times in vain. Ushio finally made her father realize his errors, and he left for the afterworld. A Japanese voice actor, singer, and pianist. She married the singer-songwriter [Yutaro Miura](https://anilist.co/staff/182317/Yuutarou-Miura) on June 12, 2020. 
 
Makino took up piano at the age of four. Her talent was discovered by the film director Shunji Iwai when she was only seven years old, and from the age of 8 to 17, she played piano solos for three of his films, one of which was _Love Letter_. She then graduated from Tokyo College of Music as piano major in 2008 with the top score in her senior year piano ensemble.

Makino has appeared in two films, several commercials, and a TV Drama. She also sang the ending theme of a Wii game, Arc Rise Fantasia. The song, which she wrote the lyrics and music of herself, was titled "Tenshi no Hashigo ~crepuscular rays~".

She was nominated for "Best Young Seiyuu"  for her outstanding portrayal of Misaki Nakahara in Welcome To The N.H.K!.

It centers around the travels and battles of one Aotsuki Ushio, who is constantly being stalked and aided by a gigantic, supernatural and sometimes invisible tiger (Some people describe it as akin to Calvin and Hobbes on acid).
 
Ushio's family maintains a Shinto temple in Japan, where 500 years ago, his samurai ancestor battled that same tiger to a standstill, and eventually trapped him against a rock using, a blessed spear called the "Beast Spear", which in addition to its intrinsic formidability as a weapon, can also boost the physical powers of the user. While cleaning out the temple storage, Ushio accidentally unseals the chamber which Tora was trapped in. Initially, Ushio wisely refused to remove the spear pinning Tora (とら, Japanese for tiger) down, as Tora unwisely makes the strategic blunder of mentioning that the first thing he would do upon being freed would be to devour Ushio; but Tora's unsealed presence attracts various demons to the premises, and Ushio is forced to free Tora in exchange for his help. The series focuses on their relationship, interspersed with battles against mythological foes, and with Tora's attempts to grapple with modern life and gobble up Ushio. 
Note: Won the Seiun Award for Best Comic of the Year in 1997. It also received the Shogakukan Manga Award for shounen in 1992.
