Black Jack is a medical mercenary, selling his skills to the highest bidder. He is a shadowy figure, with a black cloak, eerie black-and-white hair, a scar across his face and partially black skin. Black Jack cures patients indiscriminately, from common folk to presidents and yakuza leaders. To his VIP patients, he charges absurd sums. All this has given him a reputation for callousness and greed which he gleefully cultivates. However, to the reader it is clear that Black Jack actually is a good man: he is anti-wealth and anti-prestige, and believes he is actually doing rich people a favor by removing their material wealth. The opposition to wealth and power is a common theme in Tezuka's work: powerful men are almost always portrayed in a negative light.

Throughout his life, Black Jack learned some harsh lessons and has to face the reality that there are times he cannot go against the forces of nature. In difficult and tricky situations, he is a quick thinker and is able to fool others easily. Besides being an expert in surgeries, he is also a skilled combat fighter who makes use of his surgical tools that he hides underneath his cape. Although, he is perfectly capable of fighting with his bare hands, even delivering a single knock-out punch to the stomach at one point. He also shows that he is highly responsible for his patient's safety and well-being, which explains his high pricing. He even goes to the lengths of deceiving his patients to make sure they heal properly. 

He also cares for and is deeply appreciative of people who change his life, such as Dr. Honma, who saved him through surgery once. Black Jack is also very prideful and hates being made fun of, or things he deems important desecrated.



A murder occurs in an orderly world where robots are unable to kill humans. The robotic Europol investigator Gesicht takes the case, but the mystery deepens when he finds no trace of a human at the scene of the crime. As he pursues the truth, Gesicht uncovers the most evil manifestation of hate that history has ever seen, one that is bent on bringing destruction to the world ...

Black Jack is an "unregistered" doctor with a clouded, mysterious past. He works with his little assistant Pinoko (who has a massive crush on the doctor), dealing with medical cases not very well known, which can be strange, dangerous, or not known at all. But he is a genius, and can save almost any of his patients' life (as long as they have the money for it, that is), and is known to many around the world, especially to those of medicine and science. He's a man of science himself, and does not believe much until he has seen it, yet it is many times he is surprised by love and nature often overpowering the science he bases his life in.

Russell Wait (born February 15, 1977 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, U.S.) is an American voice actor and voice director based in Hong Kong.

Creating a robotic boy in the image of his recently deceased son Tobio, Professor Tenma thought nothing could go wrong now that his beloved child had been "reborn"... that is, until he comes to realize that this invention could never replace his son. Before long, however, the robot is kidnapped and spirited away to a robot circus in America, where he is soon rescued by Dr. Ochanomizu, and taken into his care. Tobio is given the new name Tetsuwan Atom, and transforms into Japan's crime-fighting hero, although his anti-violent pacifist views and overall childlike naivety tend to clash with his battles often.

Nozawa was best known for dubbing over Alain Delon, Al Pacino, Giuliano Gemma, David McCallum, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Redford, Christopher Walken, Bruce Willis, C-3PO (Star Wars Trilogy), and Nash Bridges (Nash Bridges). He was also known as his roles in Cobra (as Cobra), Dororo (as Hyakkimaru), Gokuu no Daibouken (as Sanzo), and the Sakura Wars series (as Oni-Ou).

On October 30, 2010, at 3:36 P.M., Nozawa died at a Tokyo hospital of lung cancer. He was 72 years old at the time of his death. A year after his death, he was honored with a Special Merit Award in the 5th Seiyuu Awards.

Midnight is the story of a taxi driver named Shinya Mito (whose name is literally Japanese for "mid" and "night") and his various passengers, each of whom he helps in various ways. Shinya drives a taxi as a way to earn money for the treatment of a young woman named Mari, whose brain was injured sometime earlier as the result of an accident Shinya was responsible for causing. The taxi Shinya drives is equipped with a fifth wheel which makes the car more maneuverable under any kind of road conditions.

The year is 2002, and the Marine Express, the first underwater train between America and Japan, is ready for its maiden voyage.
