Rena is a girl who returned from Ibaraki to Hinamizawa one year ago and now is in the same grade level as [Keiichi](https://anilist.co/character/1851/Maebara-Keiichi). She is very kind and capable and takes care of Keiichi and her friends whenever possible, but is also naive and is usually subject to light teasing by Keiichi. She is distinguished by her obsession with things she perceives as adorable, calling them kāii (かぁいい), a slurred form of kawaii (かわいい) meaning "cute." Those tend to be moekko characters or items she finds while scouring the local dump, which are not considered cute by others. Despite this disarming trait, Rena is shown to be amazingly observant and perceptive about the things around her.

After moving into the quiet town of Hinamizawa, Maebara Keiichi spends his days blissfully in school often playing games with his local friends. However, appearances can be deceiving. One fateful day, Keiichi stumbles upon news of a murder that had occurred in Hinamizawa. From this point on, horrific events unfold in front of Keiichi, as he soon learns his close friends may not be all that they seem. Based on the amateur mystery game by 07th Expansion, the story is told in a series of different scenarios.

Continuing from the first series, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai begins to shed some light on the dark mysteries prevalent in the preceding season. The young group of friends in the town of Hinamizawa continue to enter terrible conflicts with one another in their never ending summer of 1983, often ending with the brutal murder of one of their numbers. Furude Rika, with the help of her spiritual friend Hanyuu, tackles challenges over and over, trying her best to keep their lives from coming to a tragic end. With no end to the torture in sight, Rika must call upon the bonds of friendship and trust among her friends to discover the true villain of this eternal June.


New kid Keiichi Maebara is settling into his new home of peaceful Hinamizawa village. Making quick friends with the girls from his school, he's arrived in time for the big festival of the year. The endless cycle of murders has been broken and Rika is finally able to settle down for a normal life with her friends. It focuses on seemingly the same happenings as in Watanagashi-hen only told from Shion Sonozaki's point of view.

Tsumihoroboshi is the sixth in a series of manga following the different scenarios of the Higurashi games and the second that tries to answer questions raised in the previous scenarios. It focuses on Ryuuguu Rena's sudden distrust of her friends and answers some questions about the mystery surrounding Furude Rika.

The story is set in the same Hinamizawa village of the previous stories. The village has been completely sealed off due to a mysterious virus in 1983, and Maebara Keiichi and Ryuuguu Rena deal with the outbreak.

After losing a bet, Keichi, Mion, Rena, Satoko and Rika parade around the town in costumes. When they come to a fork in the road, they decide to go to Yagouchi, a nearby abandoned village. Once there Keichii and Rena learn the mystery of a strange haunted quarry as they debate whether or not to check it out.
