Dragon Quest is loosely based on Dragon Quest III. The names and some of the characters are familar, but the world map is smaller and a very different shape. The two main characters are Abel and Tialah. Tialah receives the legendary Red Stone from the Aliahan Village sage Master Yogi. Soon after, Tialah is kidnapped by the evil Baramos who wants to use the Red Stone to resurrect The Great Dragon and be granted eternal life. Abel swore to rescue Tialah and he is given the Blue Stone, which can only seal the Dragon once it has been released. <br><br>

As a child, he was a member of Gekidan Himawari, a children's acting troupe. He is employed by the talent management firm Aoni Production. He was close friends with late [Hirotaka Suzuoki](https://anilist.co/staff/95572/).

He is most known for the roles of Amuro Ray (Mobile Suit Gundam), Hyouma Hoshi (Kyojin no Hoshi), Pegasus Seiya (Saint Seiya), Yamcha (Dragon Ball), Kyosuke Kasuga (Kimagure Orange Road), and Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Mask (Sailor Moon).  He used the pseudonym Noboru Sougetsu in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 for his role as Ribbons Almark.

Furuya married fellow voice actress [Mami Koyama](https://anilist.co/staff/95571/Mami-Koyama) in 1976. They divorced in 1983. In 1985, he married fellow voice actress [Satomi Majima](https://anilist.co/staff/101240/Satomi-Majima), with whom had a daughter in 1992.
