Walther is a former non-commissioned officer and survivor of Operation Palaiologos, where he likely first met Irisdin. Krüger worked his way up the ranks through the years, eventually being recruited to the 666th as Irisdina's staff officer, later becoming the training manager within the squadron. Though not officially the second-in-command, it's widely known that Krüger is Irisdina's right-hand man and is fiercely loyal to her. 


The year is 1983. The Cold War is in full effect, and humanity is under attack. Strange aliens, given the name "BETA," have descended to Earth and have been destroying all life. Soldiers have been tasked with piloting large combat suits called Tactical Surface Fighters (TSF) to repel the alien invaders, but the front line is slowly being pushed back towards the surviving cities.
 
Schwarzesmarken follows the story of Theodor Eberbach and the other members of the 666th TSF Squadron Schwarzesmarken (Black Marks), a ruthless unit that values a mission's completion over human life. Stationed in East Germany on the Oder-Neisse line and led by war hero Captain Irisdina Bernhard, the unit specializes in counterassault attacks on laser-class BETA. But the 666th Squadron finds itself with more enemies than just the alien forces when optimistic rookie Katia Waldheim joins the squadron, drawing the attention of East Germany's secret police, the Stasi.

Schwarzesmarken is another spinoff of the Muv-Luv series, set in Cold War Europe in 1983, eighteen years before the events of Muv-Luv Alternative. Like Total Eclipse, Schwarzesmarken is also a light novel.
 
High treason against the state. Theodor, a pilot with the East German military whose family bears a tainted past, is sent to the 666th Company. Known as the Schwarzesmarken, they’re a unit that focuses on destroying the enemy with even at the cost of letting their comrades die. He meets the cold and calculating commander Irisdina and the idealistic Katia, and begins to doubt the way he’s lived his life.

Schwarzesmarken Requiem is a collection of short stories exploring the past and present of the cast of Schwarzesmarken from their point of view. Some stories take place during the events of Schwarzesmarken in 1983, while others happen years before the story takes place. 
 
These volumes were compiled from various Schwarzesmarken related short stories found in TSFIA and Cross Operation, as well as some stories written originally for the novels.
