A teenage girl whose father ran out on her because of his gambling debts, she was often mocked for her poverty by her classmates. She becomes the local land god after former god Mikage transfers his position as master of the shrine over to Nanami. She begins with very little spiritual power, but works hard at balancing her godly duties with her schoolwork. Nanami is often upset when Tomoe flirts with other women. Tomoe always puts Shiitake mushrooms in Nanami's food even though he knows she hates them.    ~!Nanami falls in love with Tomoe, but is rejected by him since it is taboo for a human and a demon to be lovers. Later though, Tomoe realizes he's in love with her and that awakens his curse and his memories. In recent chapters it is hinted that she might be the descendant of Tomoe's former lover, Yukiji.!~

Nanami Momozono and her familiars Tomoe and Mizuki have survived quite a few challenges since Nanami took up the mantle of Mikage Shrine's patron god. Naturally, the wind god Otohiko comes to invite Nanami to the Divine Assembly in Izumo, the home of the gods, and Nanami chooses to take Mizuki with her, leaving Tomoe to pose as her at school. However, she has an ulterior motive for attending the Divine Assembly: to discover the whereabouts of the missing Lord Mikage, the former god of the shrine. 
 
After her adventures in Izumo, Nanami meets Botanmaru, a tengu child looking for someone she knows all too well—tengu turned goth idol Shinjirou Kurama. Botanmaru needs Shinjirou, their prince, to return home to Mount Kurama and stop the tyranny of Jirou, who has taken over the rule of their hometown. However, Nanami soon discovers a force much darker than Jirou is at work on the mountain. 
 
As a fledgling god becoming more accustomed to divinity, Nanami finds herself dealing with a tengu rebellion, her blooming feelings for Tomoe, and a strange man with ties to both Tomoe's past and Nanami's future.

First narrated by Jirou, tells of his relationship with Suirou and his first encounter with the thunder beast. The second, narrated by Suirou, is about his relationship with Kurama (Shinjurou) and the events that led to his injury. The third is about Nanami trying to figure out whether or not Tomoe really said he liked her at the end of the Kurama-Yama arc. And the last one is about Botanmaru befriending a small tenma.
