Azmaria was born in Fatima, Portugal, but she went to the U.S. at a very young age after losing both her parents in World War I. She traveled across the country with a band of singers, until she was adopted by Ricardo Hendric, a demon tamer who wanted to use her powers to revive his dead wife Melda. She was rescued by Rosette and Chrno and was taken in by the Magdalan Order for her protection. She is a kind and sweet girl, who looks up to Rosette and is good friends with Chrno, not really caring  that he is demon. Since the supernatural powers she has have always been a real source of despair for her, and the cause of many tragedies in her life, she has grown to be a very weak, submissive girl, afraid to fight for herself. Meeting Rosette and Chrno was a turning point in her life, and she is determined to change and become a brave person like Rosette, who she really admires. Despite being only 12, she is very mature, and usually helps her best friends to get along with each other. Has a very beautiful soprano voice that has the ability of healing people. She is one of the 7 heavenly apostles; she is the apostle of charity.

The year is 1928 A.D. The place is New York, U.S.A. The economic prosperity brought forth after the Great War also heightened the presence of something far darker and much more sinister: the demonic Sinners. The Magdalene Order is an organization that tries to counter this force. Two of its exorcists are Rosette Christopher and her assistant, Chrono. Both appear out of place in an organization like this, and they are in a quest to find Rosette's missing brother, Joshua. Their relationships, secrets and fates can only be revealed in time...

Saeko Chiba took up ballet at a young age with ambitions of becoming part of Takarazuka Revue. However, having failed the entrance exam for Takarazuka Music School in her third year of middle-school she joined the Minami Aoyama Shōjo Kageki Dan (南青山少女歌劇団, also called Nanshō for short) a stage group for teenage girls. Having had several lead roles over the three years she spent with the troupe, Saeko was then cast in the lead voice acting role of Kotori Haruno in the Sega Dreamcast game Diamond Daydreams. Having had a taste of being a seiyū and deciding that she preferred voice acting to performing on stage, Saeko decided to pursue the career full-time.

Saeko has also pursued a singing career with [Yuki Kajiura](https://anilist.co/staff/100077), who wrote music for some of the Nanshō stage shows, writing and producing almost all her material. Her first single was Koi no Kiseki, the theme song for the PlayStation game Meguri Aishite. She has since released nine singles and two albums, along with various character song and drama CDs. She has also performed theme songs for games such as Alundra 2 and Atelier Judie.

Saeko was also part of the group tiaraway with fellow Nanshō member [Yuuka Nanri](https://anilist.co/staff/95366). The duo released three singles and an album before breaking up on March 6 2005.

On August 26th, 2007 she married (on her 30th birthday), and on February 17, 2011 she gave birth to her first child, a daughter.

America in the Roaring 20s. On the surface, it's a positive, peaceful time after the violence of the Great War. But lurking in the shadows is a dark element ready to snatch that peace away. On one particular mission, they meet a young girl with a beautiful voice named Azmaria, who is being targeted by her own stepfather.
