Joshua (Japanese: ジョシュウ Joshū) Joshua is Professor Birch&#039;s assistant. His Japanese voice actor is Akira Ishida and his English voice actor is Michael Sinterniklaas .     He first appeared in Get the Show on the Road. He was watching the lab while the Professor and Ash went to go look for Pikachu. When May arrived to receive her first Pok&eacute;mon, Joshua informed her that the Professor was busy. May then went off to look for him.     Joshua also appeared in A Six Pack Attack, where he was taking care of the Hoenn starters for Professor Birch  

After participating in the Johto League, Ash decides to begin anew in yet another journey; this time by himself and Pikachu, in the land of Hoenn. Though he isn't alone for long, as 10-year-old May (whom dislikes Pokemon, but just wants to come along to see the world) travels with him after Pikachu destroys her bicycle. Ash also meets up with his old companion, Brock, and May's younger brother, Max. Together, they travel along in Hoenn, battling Gym Leaders, entering Contests, and other events on the way to the Hoenn League. <br><br>
