The protagonist of Choujin X. Tokio is a second-year student at Tsuru High, and is a good friend of [Azuma Higashi](https://anilist.co/character/224490/Azuma-Higashi)'s. Following the events of the first chapter, Tokio became a Bestial Choujin.

As a small child, he and his classmates went on a field trip to a zoo, where they had to draw an animal that represented them. After Azuma got compared to a lion, Tokio's peers decided to mock him by comparing him to a vulture, an animal that has negative undertones associated with it. They continued to bully him until he broke down into tears before running away. Later, Azuma caught up to him and consoled him, pointing out a cool fact about vultures, which made Tokio see them in a more positive way. The event seemingly became a treasured memory for him, as his room can be seen decorated with a picture of a vulture.

Best friends Tokio and Azuma do everything together, even if most of the time it feels like Tokio is just stumbling along in Azuma’s cooler, more talented footsteps. But when they’re attacked one night by a superhuman mutant called a choujin, Tokio finally has a chance to shine—by turning into a choujin himself!
 
Being a superpowered creature isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, though. Tokio has to hide his transformation from his family and dodge a truancy charge at school, all while dealing with the increasingly odd incidents happening around town!

Note: The manga chapters are irregularly released on Tonari no Young Jump. At the same time, it received a serialization in Weekly Young Jump, starting from chapter 1. Some chapters receive a version with fewer pages in the magazine, also counting with additions of new pages in certain situations. After chapter 15, the manga went back to being exclusive to Tonari no YJ, ending the serialization in the magazine.
