Meme is a middle-aged man who lives in an abandoned building. Being an expert in apparitions field, he solves [Koyomi](https://anilist.co/character/22036/Koyomi-Araragi) and others' problems. Although he sometimes expects compensation, he does not require it always and seems to help those in need from good nature. Due to his vast knowledge of supernatural studies and general oddities, he serves as Araragi's informant during his stay in the city. Meme is a graduate of Shinto studies in college, although he never pursued the career of being a Shinto priest. Despite that, he is perfectly capable to accomplish spiritual works of a Shinto priest, such as exorcising entities and solving paranormal mysteries. He occasionally wears a Priest's outfit, as seen with the session with [Senjougahara](https://anilist.co/character/22037/Hitagi-Senjougahara) and the heavy crab. Meme's other notable accessories include an earring on his right ear and a necklace, both consisting of an inverted cross.

Thanks to Meme Oshino, Koyomi Araragi, a high school student, is able to remain a human after coming across a female vampire... Hitagi Senjougahara doesn’t weigh anything, Suruga Kanbaru’s right arm becomes like that of a monkey’s, and a young girl, Mayoi, cannot find her way home no matter how many times she tries. Koyomi, a Mr. Nice Guy, ends up helping each and every girl solve her problem with the help of Meme Oshino.

That night, Araragi encounters the rumored vampire: she is Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade, also known as the "iron-blooded, hot-blooded, cold-blooded King of Apparitions." The stunningly beautiful vampire cries out for Koyomi to save her as she lies in a pool of her own blood, all four of her limbs cut off. Kiss-shot asks Araragi to give her his blood, and when he does, the next moment he awakes, Araragi finds himself reborn as her vampire kin.
