Misaki is a mysterious girl who decides to help [Tatsuhiro Satou](https://anilist.co/character/1839/Tatsuhiro-Satou) escape his hikikomori lifestyle. She convinces him to sign a contract, involving him in her "big project", with the goal of making him an average person. Though seeing right through his actions, she tries reading him (beginner's) psychology books in an attempt to click with his feelings and "save" him.

~!Her backstory varies depending on the media. In the anime, it is revealed later on that the only reason she is helping Satou is to save herself from being worthless. Due to traumatic childhood experiences such as living with her abusive stepfather and seeing her mother committing suicide, she believes that she isn't worth anything and her existence is a reason for people's misfortune. She feels useless and the only way she can live with it is to have someone to rely on her.

However, in the manga and light novel, it is revealed she made those details up in an effort to manipulate and try to help Satou through unconventional means. Her story in the media mentioned above actually involves both her parents being happy, healthy, kind, and wealthy.

Her biological father gave her the name "Misaki" (岬) which means "promontory" in Japanese after the Ishihama Promontory.!~

Satou’s life – or what’s left of it – is a paranoid mess of conspiracy theories and social anxieties. He’s terrified of the outside world; his apartment is overflowing with the remnants of cheap take-out food; and his retinas have been permanently scarred by a steady diet of internet porn. But maybe it’s not all his fault. After all, the nefarious N-H-K is out there, and they’re determined to turn society’s fringe-dwellers into a brainwashed lot of jobless, hopeless, futureless recluses. 
 
Enter Misaki – a mysterious girl-next-door type who is Satou’s last chance to beat down his inner demons and venture out into the light of day. She’s ready to help him overcome his crippling phobias, but Satou would rather cower in his existential foxhole and pretend to work on the demo for his virtual sex game. 
 
He’s afraid to face the world. She’s strangely desperate to fix a total stranger. Maybe together they can be normal.

A Japanese voice actor, singer, and pianist. She married the singer-songwriter [Yutaro Miura](https://anilist.co/staff/182317/Yuutarou-Miura) on June 12, 2020. 
 
Makino took up piano at the age of four. Her talent was discovered by the film director Shunji Iwai when she was only seven years old, and from the age of 8 to 17, she played piano solos for three of his films, one of which was _Love Letter_. She then graduated from Tokyo College of Music as piano major in 2008 with the top score in her senior year piano ensemble.

Makino has appeared in two films, several commercials, and a TV Drama. She also sang the ending theme of a Wii game, Arc Rise Fantasia. The song, which she wrote the lyrics and music of herself, was titled "Tenshi no Hashigo ~crepuscular rays~".

She was nominated for "Best Young Seiyuu"  for her outstanding portrayal of Misaki Nakahara in Welcome To The N.H.K!.

Sato Tatsuhiro is a drug-addled "hikikomori" (a Japanese shut-in) who thinks a sinister organization, NHK (Nihon Hikikomori Kyoukai), is the cause of all his problems! He falls in love with a girl, Misaki, who he thinks is trying to assassinate him, but doesn't know how to talk to her or if he can trust her. The more he stay in his house watching anime porn, reading manga and doing drugs, the harder it is for him to leave. Only Misaki can keep him from rotting away in his own apartment!

Tatsuhiro Satou, a university dropout entering his fourth year of unemployment. He leads a reclusive life as a hikikomori, ultimately coming to the bizarre conclusion that this happened due to some sort of conspiracy. One day just when his life seems entirely unchanging, he meets Misaki Nakahara, a mysterious girl who claims to be able to cure Tatsuhiro of his hikikomori ways. She presents him with a contract basically outlining that once a day they would meet in the evening in a local park where Misaki would lecture to Tatsuhiro in an effort to rid him of his lifestyle. During these outings, many subjects are discussed, though they almost always pertain in some way to psychology or psychoanalysis.
