Sakuragi Rokurouta, referred as 'An-chan' by his cell mates, is the oldest of the seven protagonists in Rainbow. He is strong and has great boxing technique which he used to take on all the six new comers when Mario instigated a fight.  Although it seemed he looked down upon the six new cell mates in the beginning, which lead to a fight he won with ease, the six new cell mates found out later that Sakuragi is in reality a guy worthy to look upon and soon start to refer him as An-chan, which can be translated as an 'intimate bro'.  The reason why Sakuragi has been detained is unknown. Rumors are he killed his own parents. It seems Sakuragi holds the key to lead the six new comers to the outside world when they end their detention in two years time. 

~!In episode 4, it is revealed that he didn't really kill his father. His father was depressed that he survived a war where his sons died, and Sakuragi said harsh things to him because he didn't understand, causing his father to commit suicide. Sakuragi blames himself, and keeps insisting that he's the reason his father is dead.!~

~! In episode 12, after being stabbed by Ishihara, he goes to see Mario Minakami's boxing match, but is shot down by American soldiers on his way there.!~

Seven teenagers in 1955 have to learn to live together in the same hold in the reformatory of Shounan. Confined in a hall where suffering and humiliation are daily, they are waiting for a ray of hope in a dark, incarcerating world. The story follows their life together and how they move on afterwards.

Six minors (16-17 years) answering to the nicknames of Joe, Mario, Suppon, Baremoto, Heitai, and Kyabetsu are put into a reformatory for offenses such as aggravated assault, swindling, flight, etc. Their stay in hell begins immediately. Accommodated by a doctor pedophile, they are placed under the watch of a despotic and brutal crew. Cellmates with a certain Sakuragi (called Anchan), the tension rises between the band of buddies and their new "friend." A brawl breaks out, and our six prisoners are done rossés by the mysterious young man, thanks to his boxing talent.
 
The story will not only follow the lives of these seven characters surviving in their hellish environment, but also their disillusions due to the rejection by the outside world and by their close relations. This is about the extraodinary and invincible friendships between these young men.
