Denzou is gruff and strict, and his skills as both a ninja and a teacher is widely known. He is frequently exasperated by the antics of his class, but is also proud of their progress when it matters.

Denzou also takes any available opportunity to crossdress when it arises, becoming Denko, his alter-ego as a woman. Early in the series, Denzou's grotesque disguise was a running joke, but has recently been portrayed as rather effective.

Rantarou, Shinbei and Kirimaru are ninja apprentices in the Ninja Gakuen, where first grade ones are called "Nintamas" (contraction of the words ninja+tama (egg)). They must learn everything a ninja must know, but as for our heroes, money, food or playing are more interesting. The series show the everyday adventures of our heroes, segmentated in a cartoon fashion, like 2 small episodes in a 30-min show. The cast also includes the teachers (Doi-sensei and crossdressing Yamada-sensei), nintama kunoichis, evil guys (Dokutake ninjas) and even family members of all the cast...

Chikao Ootsuka was a Japanese actor, voice actor and narrator, with a career spanning 67 years.
Ootsuka died from ischemic heart failure at the age of 85 on January 15, 2015.

This gag manga is the most popular series in Asahi Shogakusei newspaper and became a huge hit when adapted into the anime series &ldquo;Nintama Rantarou&rdquo; on NHK TV. The time is the Sengoku period, and the characters are ninjas-in-training who have entered Ninjutsu Gakuen. Their sights are set on becoming first-class ninjas, but they usually end up creating chaos. This series is perfect for treating students who are wearied from studying.
