Mother of Diana and Minnie May. Mrs. Barry has a severe personality, expecting her children to follow strict and sometimes unreasonable rules. She&#039;s quick to condemn Anne for mistakes (such as accidentally getting Diana drunk). (After the &quot;raspberry cordial&quot; incident, Mrs. Barry won&#039;t let Anne speak to Diana until Anne finally redeems herself by saving Minnie May.)

Anne is an orphan full of imagination. When she arrives at her new home she learns that sometimes you have to be a sensible person too; at the same time her unique character changes, or at least attracts, the people around her. The story covers Anne's growth from about eleven to seventeen years old as she makes friends, goes to school and studies. At a difficult point in her life, Anne will have to make a hard choice and perhaps find a new dream.

Mutou Reiko, born in Tokyo, Japan, was a voice actress. She is most well known for playing the voice of Elizabeth Taylor in Japanese dubbed television and films, and playing main characters in Marvelous Melmo (as Melmo), Astro Boy as Uran (Astro Girl in the English version), and Moomin (as Non Non). As a child, she found she enjoyed acting after joining the child acting troupe Gekidan Komadori.  Mutou died of acute heart failure on 29.10.2006.

Miss Marilla Cuthbert and Mr. Matthew Cuthbert, middle-aged siblings who live together at Green Gables, a farm in Avonlea, on Prince Edward Island, decide to adopt an orphan boy from the asylum as a helper on their farm. Through a series of mishaps, what ends up under their roof is a precocious girl of eleven named Anne Shirley. Anne is bright and quick, eager to please but dissatisfied with her name, her pale countenance dotted with freckles, and with her long braids of red hair. Being a child of imagination, however, Anne takes much joy in life, and adapts quickly, thriving in the environment of Prince Edward Island.
