Yoshitake is a first year female student who decided to join Genshiken after seeing Ogiue's poster drawing demonstration and sensing the fujioshi aspects of it and recognizing Ogiue as a fujoshi. She is slender, wears glasses, is bright and cheerful, but is also a bit manipulative as seen when she got everyone to cosplay, a feat even Ohno could not accomplish. It’s spring of freshman year, and Kanji Sasahara has a difficult dilemma. Should he declare his love for manga and anime fandom by joining an otaku club, like he has always wanted to? Is he prepared to deal with the social stigma attached to being an otaku? Meanwhile, Saki Kasakabe has her own otaku conundrum. How can she turn her boyfriend, anime fanboy Makoto, into a normal guy? Kanji follow his heart as does Saki. When both Kanji and Makoto join Genshiken: The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture, Saki chases Makoto through the various activities of the club from cosplaying and comic conventions, to video gaming and anime model figures. Saki finds otaku to be more than she imagined, but not necessarily in a good way.

It's a new semester at Shiiou University, and for "The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture," AKA Genshiken, that can only mean one thing - new freshman recruits! Originally founded as a club for otaku to discuss their unabashed love of anime, manga, and video games with one another, the current president of Genshiken, Chika Ogiue, may have bitten off more than she can chew by recruiting a bunch of yaoi-obsessed fujoshis to join their ranks! Meanwhile, the original members of Genshiken who have since graduated find themselves coming to terms with their new lives as productive members of society.

Sumire entered the entertainment industry at the age of 9, when she was scouted by Space Craft's junior talent division. In 2009, she landed her first regular radio gig as host of Web Raji@Dengeki Bunko, and in 2011, she transferred to animation division of Space Craft due her interest in becoming a voice actress. On March 12, 2016, Sumire received the Best Rookie Actress award in the 10th Seiyuu Awards. She has also been a member of the seiyuu unit ".lady." since 2014.

Sumire is fluent in Russian and loves the Soviet culture, which she became interested in after hearing the State Anthem of the USSR in her first year of high school. In April 2010, Sumire entered the Faculty of Foreign Studies at Sophia University, and she majored in the Russian language there.

Sumire is interested in history and war figurines, particularly Russian/Soviet history, the Showa era, and likes the book Romance of the Three Kingdoms. She also has had a strong interest in games, anime and manga ever since she was a child. Her other interests consists of photography, lolita fashion-- she works as a lolita model-- and drawing, which she is quite good at. She also loves rock and heavy metal; her favorite bands are Metallica, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Dragonforce, and Kinniku Shoujo Tai. Additionally, Sumire is very good friends with fellow seiyuu [Sachika Misawa](https://anilist.co/staff/102337/Sachika-Misawa), who has called Sumire "her waifu".

In the Japanese edition, the first volume of Nidaime is numbered Volume 10, to continue from the end of the 9-volume Genshiken series.
