He is once a mortal, but becoming an immortal overtook him. While he was walking down to the beach, he found a mermaid corpse lying on shore. He heard about the legend so he ate the mermaid flesh. But unfortunately, the flesh turned him into a monster. He is almost like a Lost Soul, only that he can speak and has human feelings and his eyes are big and swollen. When he woke up from a concussion during the transformation, he saw that his village has been destroyed and so is his family along with everybody who lived in the village has been murdered. He is now called &quot;Big Eyes&quot;. He is without company for a long time until Mana came along. He found her and Yuta dead in the cliffs. He took her to his cave and feeds her. He wants Mana to stay with him for company and to be prevented from being hunted. The most hunter is a man who lost his eye to &quot;Big Eyes&quot; 40 years ago. When Yuta and the hunter found &quot;Big Eyes&quot; and Mana, they attacked him. All the attack turned &quot;Big Eyes&quot; into a fierce monster. Mana tries to protect him, but Yuta and the hunter had no choice but to kill him. As he lay dying, he called out Mana's name from his last breath. Yuta tells her that &quot;Big Eyes&quot; died as a human.   

According to an ancient legend, mermaid's flesh can grant immortality if eaten. 500 years ago, Yuta unknowingly ate a piece of mermaid's flesh. For centuries, he travels across Japan, hoping to find a mermaid, thinking she may be able to make him a normal human again. When he finally finds one, he discovers that she and her companions have been raising a girl to be their food so they can eat her and take on her youthful looks. That is how mermaids stay young. Yuta kills the mermaids and rescues her, but she has already eaten some of the mermaid's flesh. Although he had to kill the mermaids, Yuta isn't too disappointed. Yuta's once lonely existence is now over, as he has found a companion in Mana. And Mana, who had been trapped in a small hut her whole life, finds delight in even the simplest of things. Together, Yuta and Mana attempt to seek out more mermaids, trying to become normal humans again.

Immortal lovers Yuta and Mana travel through Japan and the centuries longing for a normal life. This is the second volume of the Mermaid Saga series from the original tankoubon release, which includes the one-shot stories "Mermaid's Dream" (夢の終わり, Yume no Owari) and "The Ash Princess" (舎利姫, Shari-Hime), as well as the two-chapter stories "Mermaid's Promise" (約束の明日, Yakusoku no Ashita) and "Mermaid's Scar" (人魚の傷 前編, Ningyo no Kizu Zenpen).

This is the third volume of the Mermaid Saga series from the shinsouban release, which includes 4 chapters not previously in the tankoubon release: the two-chapter stories "Mermaid's Gaze" (夜叉の瞳, Yasha no Hitomi Mae) and "The Last Face" (最後の顔, Saigo no Kao Mae). In the shinsouban release, the one-shot "The Ash Princess" (舎利姫, Shari-Hime) is instead included in this volume rather than the second volume like before.
