Hikaru grew up with his father as a talented aerobatic flier, having won seven amateur flying contests by the age of 16 in 2009. When his "senpai" Roy Focker invited him to the launch ceremony of the SDF-1 Macross he found himself pulled into a galactic war against an alien race called the Zentradi. He later joins the UN Spacy after a talk with Focker and Lynn Minmay. Shortly after joining, he gains a reputation as a skilled pilot and leader, and he is promoted to second lieutenant and later first lieutenant. He pilots the VF-1S Valkyrie "Skull One" ~! after the death of Focker, !~ and is eventually promoted to captain at the end of the series.  Hikaru is an atypical anime sci-fi hero. Despite some early personality clashes with his female superior officer Misa Hayase, Hikaru is a rather humble and jovial type of person, in contrast to the usual hot-headed type of heroes of other mecha series. He displays leadership abilities early on and has a deep sense of responsibility and duty. However, unlike most lead characters, he concedes that his subordinate, Maximilian Jenius, is the best in battle. ~! His personal feelings tend toward two women: his friend-turned-idol Japanese-Chinese girl Lynn Minmay, and Misa. Being a shy person, he seems incapable of defining what he really feels for each of them, creating a tense love triangle that became as interesting and essential to the Macross story as the mecha battles and action sequences amid the alien-human apocalyptic war. !~ ~! After the war, Hikaru weds Misa, and they board the SDF-2 Megaroad-01 in 2012 to leave on a stellar exploration mission; they have a daughter in 2013 named Miku Ichijyo. The Megaroad-01 disappears in 2016 without a trace near the center of the galaxy. !~

In 1999, a giant alien spacecraft crash lands on South Ataria island. Humanity proceeds to attempt to rebuild this marvel, but political conflicts centered around the Macross result in a global war. After 10 years, the Unification Wars are finally over, the new Earth United Nations Government is in power, and work on the Macross is complete. 
 
On the day of the launching ceremony, its main cannon fires on its own, destroying an alien spacecraft. This fateful day marks the beginning of the war between the humans on the Macross and the Zentradi, a race of humanoid aliens of giant proportions.

Victor Joseph Mignogna was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He was always interested in drama, film, music,acting, and majored in Film in college. Vic spent approximately ten years acting in independent films and composing, transposing and producing music for ad agencies, TV series, and movies. 

In 1998, through a connection from a work associate at the time, Vic made his debut as Vega in "Street Fighter 2" under ADV Films. Vic enjoyed the anime dubbing experience and continued working for ADV. Soon, he landed his first main character role as Gawl in "Generator Gawl". Over time, Vic also began working for FUNimation Entertainment, and moved from Houston, Texas to Los Angeles, California to continue work there in late 2008. In February 2019, studios Funimation and Rooster Teeth cut ties with Mignogna after a number of sexual harassment allegations surfaced. Mignogna has denied the allegations and filed a lawsuit against Funimation and several individuals in April 2019 alleging defamation and tortious interference, however, the case was dismissed on October 2019 and he was ordered by the court to pay the defendants' legal fees. Mignogna lost his appeals from Funimation and their actors in 2022.

Since then, his acting career has relatively stalled, though he remains active on social media and continues to attend fan conventions. He founded dubbing studio "AM Studios" in partnership with the Anime Matsuri convention. 

__Music:__
Vic has continued his music career, releasing five albums, Selah (original piano music), Metafiction (original music, including the anime-related songs Nothing I Won't Give [Fullmetal Alchemist]) and Soldier A, saluting the generic soldiers of anime), If These Walls Could Talk (original music), a Christmas album (including 2 original songs), and Selah II (the sequel to Selah, also original piano compositions). His sixth album, which is a remix album, remixing some of his original songs and some popular songs, is set to be released in February of 2010. This album also contains Vic's English version of the Brothers Theme from "Fullmetal Alchemist" and the English version of the "D.N.Angel" opening theme, True Light, both of which are licensed.

__Roles:__
Vic has now appeared in approximately 150 anime series and video games, and has sung many English dub theme songs, most notably in the FUNimation dub of "One Piece". He is best known for his roles as Edward Elric from "Fullmetal Alchemist", Tamaki Suoh from "Ouran High School Host Club", Broly from "Dragon Ball Z", Fai D. Flowrite from "Tsubasa Chronicle", Zero Kiryu from "Vampire Knight", Spirit (Death Scythe) from "Soul Eater", Dark Mousy from "D.N.Angel", Kurz Weber from "Full Metal Panic", and Ikkaku Madarame from "Bleach". He made his directorial debut in "Claymore", in which he also plays the role of Rigaldo. Vic won Best Actor at the American-Anime-Awards for his role of Edward Elric in "Fullmetal Alchemist".

Rafael Antonio "Tony" Olivier is a Puerto Rican-born American voice actor best known for voicing Rick Hunter from Robotech, Lancer from Fate/stay night, and Arsène Lupin III from Lupin the Third. He helped produce the live action shows Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and VR Troopers.

**José de Jesús Barrero Andrade**, better known as Jesús Barrero, was a Mexican actor and voice actor. He was known for being the Latin American Spanish voice of Luke Skywalker in _Star Wars_, Kuzco in _The Emperor's New Groove_, and Rex in _Toy Story_.

But shortly after returning to Macross City, Minmay is captured by the Zentraedi, and Hikaru and female officer Misa Hayase end up back on Earth - only to view the aftermath of the destruction of their civilization. Only a song discovered eons ago - along with Minmay's voice - can determine the outcome of the war.

A new manga adaptation of the first TV series called Macross: The First has been released in Japan during 2009. It is a comic format alternate telling of the events in The Super Dimension Fortress Macross (with modern character and mecha designs) that is being serialized in the Sh&#333;nen Ace manga magazine. The artist for the new manga series is Haruhiko Mikimoto, who was the character designer for the original Macross.
