Dieter is a young boy when found by Tenma to be under the care of a man named Hartmann. Upon meeting Dieter, Tenma notices that the young boy is covered in bruises. It turns out that Hartmann was trying to make Dieter into another Johan, a kind of leader that had not been produced from 511 Kinderheim before. Dieter later becomes more optimistic after being saved by Doctor Tenma from Hartmann's physical and mental abuse. He follows Doctor Tenma in his search for Johan, partially to prevent Tenma from becoming a murderer, but also because he is fond of Tenma. He later teams up with Nina, to give her moral support whenever her traumatic memories resurface as he was also subjected to similar abuse.   

Dr. Kenzo Tenma is a renowned Japanese brain surgeon working at a leading hospital in Germany. One night, Dr. Tenma risks his reputation and career to save the life of a critically wounded young boy over that of the town mayor who had been planning to support the hospital financially. A string of mysterious murders begin to occur soon after the operation, and Dr. Tenma emerges as the primary suspect despite no incriminating evidence. 
 
A doctor is taught to believe that all life is equal; however, when another series of murders occur in the surgeon's vicinity, Dr. Tenma's beliefs are shaken as his actions that night are shown to have much broader consequences than he could have imagined. Leaving behind his life as a surgeon he embarks on a journey across the country to unravel the mystery of the boy he saved.

Laura Dawn Bailey is an American actress and voice actress. Best known for her anime roles (at first, Funimation titles but she has definitely moved on), she has also supplied voices in video games and worked as staff on several anime series. She's become one of the most prolific female voice actors in the AAA gaming industry since 2010.

Some of her best known anime roles are Lust in Fullmetal Alchemist, Young Trunks in Dragon Ball Z, Maka Albarn in Soul Eater, Tohru Honda in Fruits Basket, Sana Kurata in Kodocha, and Shin Nohara in the English dub of Crayon Shin-chan.

Bailey primarily does video game voice overs and western animation nowadays, rarely getting any new anime roles, generally only reprising roles when she does anime. If she does get a new anime role, it's usually with Studiopolis.
