He is also the older version of Pharos.!~    Originally, Ryoji shows up as a new transfer student, and becomes fast friends with Junpei and the rest of the group. His cheerful and reckless dating attitude is also subject of much talk, even going as far as asking Yukari as well as Mitsuru on a date upon first sight. Aigis remained extremely cautious of him, however, constantly referring to him as &quot;dangerous.&quot;    ~!The fun doesn&#039;t last long though, as a battle with Aigis on Moonlight Bridge finally awakens his memories of his true purpose. When the group gets there, they find a damaged Aigis, and an unconscious Ryoji. After he recovers, he tells them everything he knew, and expressed that he is tormented by the fact of who and what he is more than anyone. He gives the group a choice: they can kill him on the spot, and the Dark Hour will vanish, and they will forget everything, and return to their normal lives, or they can let him live. Either way, according to him, it is inevitable that the world will end at the hands of Nyx; only by choosing to kill them, will their world end in a somewhat &quot;painless&quot; fashion. Depending on the choice the player makes, they can either kill or let Ryoji live, each resulting in a different ending. During the discussion with the main character, he shows that he is also Thanatos, the Ultimate Persona of the Death Arcana.!~

To know death, to gaze at death, to face death. Makoto and his allies have grown through the many meetings and partings they have experienced. Their fight might not be for the sake of the world, but for themselves. Even so, they have continued to fight, believing that there are peaceful days waiting at the end of the battle.

As the season turns to autumn, Makoto and the other members of S.E.E.S. inch ever closer to the end of their battles with the Shadows. Through the battles, some must face the deaths of friends and family, some must notice what precious things must be protected, and some must find meaning in the conflicts that have occurred.

After realizing the value of life and the importance of his own allies, Makoto finally got his smile back. He finds himself learning more about those comrades and getting closer to them. Makoto wishes that everything will continue just as they are. However, little by little, the pieces and people in Makoto's new, happy life begin to fall apart.

A teenager who was orphaned as a young boy returns to the city of his childhood. Shortly after transferring to Gekkoukan High School, he is attacked by Shadows &mdash; creatures that feed on the minds of their victims. The assault awakens his Persona, Orpheus, his only chance at defeating these creatures of the night. He soon discovers that he shares this special ability with other students at his new school. From them he learns of the "Dark Hour," a hidden time that exists between one day and the next, swarming with Shadows. He joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES), and with his new friends, confronts the threat of the Shadows.<br><br>
After signing a contract in which he "accepts his fate of his own free will," the main character battles with the other members of SEES against the Greater Shadows, incarnations with traits and appearances similar to those of the first 12 Major Arcana of the Tarot. While this is occurring, he continues to encounter and eventually befriends the child who gave him the contract to sign at the very beginning of the game, an entity who refers to himself as Pharos, and is really the incarnation of Death, the 13th Arcana.
