The original Shinigami who dropped the Death Note in the human world, which [Light Yagami](https://anilist.co/character/80/Light-Yagami) ended up picking up. 

Acting out of pure boredom, Ryuk begins the story of Death Note on a whim. Perhaps neutral by nature, Ryuk often refuses to aid Light and instead enjoys watching him struggle for his goal. The most important facet of Ryuk's character is that he is not Light's friend. He acts for his own interests and entertainment, and often fails to tell Light key details about the Death Note. Ryuk is selfish, however, and will aid Light if it serves his own goals, such as providing amusement or obtaining apples, which he loves.

Light Yagami is a genius high school student who is about to learn about life through a book of death. When a bored shinigami, a God of Death, named Ryuk drops a black notepad called a Death Note, Light receives power over life and death with the stroke of a pen. Determined to use this dark gift for the best, Light sets out to rid the world of evil… namely, the people he believes to be evil. Should anyone hold such power? 
 
The consequences of Light’s actions will set the world ablaze.

The chapter centers on Ryuk's Death Note being brought again to the human world, after the end of the main manga.  The chapter was later included in the volume “Death Note: Tanpenshuu”.

1. Genshisuru Kami (Visions of a God) 
A two hour episode of Death Note, mainly a compilation of the confrontations between Light and L, re-edited from Ryuk's perspective with new dialogue and soundtrack along with additional animation that could not be included in the original series. An Unnamed Shinigami comes to Ryuk to question him about his new story in the human world. 
2. Eru o Tsugu Mono (L's Successors) 
This story continues where the previous left off, continuing the story of Light. As the previous special told Light and L's battles, this story does the same with the conflicts between Light, Mello, and Near.

A one-chapter sequel of the Death Note manga which tells what happened 3 years after it all ended.  The chapter was later published in volume format as a bonus in the Death Note: All-in-One Edition, then later in the volume “Death Note: Tanpenshuu”.

Thirteen-year-old Taro Kagami is a mild-mannered student who struggles with the harsher side of middle school. One day, on his walk back home, he finds a black notebook with the English title "Death Note." As he only understands the meaning of "Note," Taro assumes it's an ordinary notebook and takes it home to use as a diary. To vent his frustrations, he writes in the diary about his day and details how two of his classmates bullied him. Shockingly, the very next day, he is informed that those two students died of heart attacks.
 
When he learns the meaning of the word "Death," Taro starts to believe that the diary can kill whoever's name is written inside. The appearance of the shinigami Ryuk, the original owner of the Death Note who now stalks Taro, only confirms his theory. Now armed with this deadly weapon, Taro must decide what course of action he will take and whether he is capable of wielding such a disastrous power.
