A member of the idol group Sweet Diva, she is Sakura's rival who is a tomboy and strong-minded, though, she may appear to be supportive of Sakura's plans to be a pro wrestler in order to redeem not only her honor but the group's reputation as well, she is actually jealous of Sakura for getting the top notch as the group's lead singer. It is hinted that she won't hesitate to take every opportunity to outshine Sakura, originally, it was her who got into a spat with Rio Kazama (eventually, Sakura got deeply involve after coming into her aide) because of Rio's insults about the two divas' (Sakura and her) poor choice of getting into wrestling as a promotional gimmick.

Monica's father is from Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain, and when she was young, her family would often visit there. She would translate for her younger brother some of the European Spanish-dubbed cartoons which included anime like Doraemon and Dragon Ball Z, often imitating the various characters. Monica studied ballet, tap, and jazz, but transitioned to musical theater when was 12. She studied acting through high school as well as college at the University of Houston. She's cited voice actor inspirations from The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Beavis and Butt-head. She was working on a theater show with Jason Douglas, who suggested she audition for ADV Films. Her first voice-over role was a walla in the 1999 dub of Martian Successor Nadesico.
