
Emerald is a Pokémon Trainer born somewhere in the Hoenn region. Due to the loss of his parents at a young age, he was moved between his family members and was constantly bullied by his cousins due to his short height and tendency to rely on the help of Pokémon to get objects from high places. These events led to Emerald developing a complex about his height and a dislike of Pokémon. To get over his height issues, he used hair gel to style his hair upwards and wore various gadgets and clothing to make himself look taller than he actually is.

The constant moving from family member to family member led to Emerald developing the ability to determine a Pokémon's birthplace. If a Pokémon goes on a rampage, Emerald can calm it by surrounding the Pokémon with a "seal" of soil from its birthplace. The Pokémon is then calmed by a sense of nostalgia.

Emerald claims to not like Pokémon themselves, but he likes Pokémon battles. As he does not train his own Pokémon, he borrows the Pokémon he uses from Crystal. Despite these claims, he is very close to Latios and Latias, who call him "Em".



Red is just a normal kid living in the rural Pallet Town, when he decides to go out on his own adventure, along with his rival since childhood, Green. In this world of Pokemon, he makes many friends, humans and Pokemon alike. However, all is not well. Team Rocket is trying to capture Mew, a very rare Pokemon, and is performing experiments on other Pokemon, trying to increase their power. Red and his friends must battle against Team Rocket to stop their cruel experiments and unlock the secrets of Pokemon.<br>

The chapter begins with focus on a Trainer named Emerald, who is sent by Professor Oak and Crystal to catch Jirachi within seven days. On arrival at the Battle Frontier, he accidentally interferes in the opening ceremonies and gains the second challenge of clearing the seven Facilities by defeating the Frontier Brains within that time. During this time, Emerald befriends Todd Snap and discovers that the masked Guile Hideout is seeking Jirachi for evil purposes.

Peace may have been restored to Hoenn after the evils schemes of Team Aqua, Team Magma and later Guile Hideout were put to rest. However, when a new crisis approached, Steve Stone had no choice but to enlist the help of Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald once again.
