The inhabitants of Mitsuke village are ordered by a kakuen, a half-man, half-ape creature, to sacrifice a young girl at a shrine dedicated to the deity Tenjin. A young monk Benzon goes to Kouzen-ji temple to seek help, and returns with the famous Hayate, an exorcist dog, to set a trap for the evil creature that is terrorising the villagers. But nothing goes as planned when Mashira the kakuen decides to adopt the magnificent dog.
