In the United States, as the Civil War has just broken out, Doctor March must go to the front, leaving behind his wife and their four daughters: Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. Their house having burned down during a battle, they are forced to move to Newcord, to their Aunt Martha's. A new life begins for them...
