The story begins with Ato Haruki, an investigator at the Otowa Detective Agency, waking up in his office. His colleague Shinano seems to have gone to the convenience store. While waiting for him to return, Ato tries to get some work done. It seems that his next assignment is a disappearance case involving a new religious group called the "Shikoten Research Institute."
