What if World War II had not been a battle between Axis and Allies, but between the human race and mysterious attacking aliens? This is the world of Strike Witches: Maidens in the Sky. The Earth has been invaded by a mysterious alien race known as the “Neuroi.” Humanity is on the verge of annihilation and their only hope is a team of flying magical girls–the Strike Witches.
Maidens in the Sky follows the story of Miyafuji Yoshika, a simple farm girl who dreams only of taking over her family’s medical clinic. One fateful day, a Strike Witch falls out of the sky and lands right at her feet. Yoshika is a healer and wants nothing to do with warfare or violence, but this chance encounter will change her destiny forever!

It has been nearly twenty years since the last Great War, and while smaller skirmishes are still taking place across the world, peace is mostly the norm. In the Fuso Empire, Sakamoto Mio is about to join the war effort against the Neuroi alien invaders. She will have to distinguish herself among the other hardworking cadets if she is to become a full-fledged Strike Witch. Soon, she will have the chance to prove herself in battle, as the Neuroi launch their latest brutal attack.

When an alien force eventually called the &ldquo;Neuroi&rdquo; attacks Earth around the 1940&rsquo;s, the world is devastated by destruction. However, one man is able to lead the invention of an anti-Neuroi weapon known as the &ldquo;Striker unit&rdquo; which augments magical power and also enables flight through two mechanical lower-leg coverings known as a sort of witches &ldquo;broom&rdquo;. Young witches from around the world are gathered together to fight back in a force known as Strike Witches. The inventor, however, was thought to have been killed during service. The daughter of the inventor leads a relatively normal life except for her untrained and incredible magical power which she hopes to use one day in healing. However, she is suddenly whisked away on a search to see if her father is actually alive. She encounters his invention and the possibility of perhaps using it herself.
