Remake of the original series from 1973.<br><br>
The manga follows a man named Kazuryuu. Kazuryuu's mother, who was murdered, left him with a memento of the mystery of the "sculpture of the nine-headed dragon." Kazuryuu becomes a medicine seller and an assassin named "Baiyaku" in order to travel Japan and find out the secret of his birth, his name, and his mother's murder.

Kutouryuu, a medicine peddler who kept a kakeba-cho (a list of customers for medicine peddlers) with a kutouryuu on the cover, would sometimes take on troublesome cases as "baiyaku" (purchase) as he traveled from country to country. His goal is to discover the secret of his birth. The only clue to the secret of his birth is a metal fronting "Kutouryuu" on a cigarette case. In search of someone who knows "Kutouryuu," Kutouryuu continues his journey...
