The mysterious pilot of the crimson VF-27 variable fighter that Alto Saotome encounters in a Vajra carrier. He seems to know how to play the first part of Ranka's song "Aimo" using his harmonica. After saving Ranka from a wild beast attack, the injuries Brera sustained revealed that he is also a cyborg. He harbors a great deal of concern for Ranka's well-being, but he doesn't exactly know why. A picture discovered by Alto Saotome inside the SDF-4 Global revealed that he had some kind of connection to Ranka before becoming a cyborg. It's also revealed that he is a Major in the Galaxy Fleet Antares Squadron. He is currently Ranka's bodyguard and also likes to listen to Ranka's song, decribing the feeling he gets from her songs as being enveloped in a universe that accepts him instead of rejecting him. In episode 21 he is last seen assisting Ranka into delivering her stage 2 Vajra pet "Ai-kun" to the rest of its species. Some time later he and Ranka find the planet of origin of the Vajra.   ~!In the first Macross F. movie, he is Sheryl's bodyguard.!~

After being threatened by extinction at the hands of alien invaders called the Zentradi, humanity undertook the task of guaranteeing itself a future by launching fleets of colony ships into space. On Macross Frontier, one such fleet, high school student Saotome Alto's life is changed forever: the fleet is suddenly attacked by unidentified creatures while he is performing aerial stunts for a concert by the wildly popular idol Sheryl. 
Alto quickly finds himself in the cockpit of a new-model fighter struggling to protect Ranka Lee, a young girl he met only hours earlier, from the invaders' swath of destruction. Noting his performance during this incident, the S.M.S. Skull Squadron private military company invites Alto to join their organization, where he continues protecting his friends and Macross Frontier.

Picking up from where the previous movie left off, Ranka's star career flourishes while Sheryl's health rapidly deteriorates after collapsing during a live performance. At the same time, separate factions are maneuvering behind the scenes seeking to control the Vajra horde by utilizing the singing abilities of the two songstresses. As the entire Macross Frontier fleet begins to wage the final war on the Vajra, Alto finally makes a choice between Ranka and Sheryl.

Half retelling of the original Frontier series, half new story. Conspiracies arise within the Frontier government when Sheryl Nome arrives to the colonial fleet for her concert and is soon marked as a spy for Galaxy while childhood friends, Alto Saotome and Ranka Lee both try to achieve their dreams as the battle between Frontier and the Vajra draws closer. 
This movie serves as part one of the Frontier retelling and will conclude with the second, The Wings of Goodbye.

Ranka Lee is on an interplanetary concert tour several years after the battle against the Vajra. While on tour, she visits the ruins of a temple known as the Well of Souls, a place used to communicate with the gods and the dead. Ranka approaches the ruins and finds herself pulled deep within.
