Contrary to his angelic appearance, Akira is Team Hiragi's little devil. His bratty personality often causes him to clash with Kakeru and Kaito, but he listens to Rui whenever he asks him to stop. However, according to Team Hiragi, he's not really a bad guy even though he has a bad mouth.

The story starts when Yuuta Hoshiya enters Ayana Academy, a school focusing on show business activities, specifically music. The academy has a group of the three students with the highest grades in the musical department, and they are known as the Kao Kai (Cherry Blossom Flower Association). This organization stands at the top of the pecking order within the academy. 
 
The shortcut to entering the musical department is to enter the Star Frame class, which is directly taught by the members, and to be recognized by them. Unfortunately, due to their own problems, students Tōru, Kaito, Shou, Shuu, and Yuuta are all struggling to even remain candidates for the musical department. By a stroke of luck, however, the five are spotted by Kao Kai member Ootori, and they pique his interest.

Yuuta Hoshitani, who enrolled in the prestigious Ayanagi Academy for music entertainment, passed the first-year test to become a musical department student in his second year. However, the new school year immediately presents new trials for the returning students. 

The first task on the second-year curriculum is supporting the graduation stage performance of Ootori and the other graduating Kaou Council members. There are five roles known as "second-year training roles" in the legendary musical Shadow & Lights. 

Every year, a team of only five second-year students get to step on stage as performers in the musical. It is a great honor for the musical department students, to co-star with their respected former leaders. To earn a ticket to glory, Hoshitani and 24 other new musical department students take on the training auditions. 

At that moment, the coming-of-age slapstick musical story raises the curtains once more.

 Hoshitani Yuuta's dream of performing on stage with Ootori Itsuki, his admired senior, finally came true; and, now, Yuuta focuses on his next dream, spending his days working hard in musical training at Ayanagi Academy's musical department. However, another new trial awaits him! 
 The start of the second semester brings with it the impending class performance at the Ayanagi Festival. This will be the first stage performance the boys will have to tackle without the help of a senior leader to guide them. Yuuta and the others throw themselves eagerly into overcoming their team boundaries, joining forces to form a new company to put on the best show ever. But the Kao Council suddenly makes an appearance and stands in the way of the second years! 
 As a part of their plan to reform the Ayanagi Festival the Kao Council is producing a fresh new program called the opening ceremony. The students selected for this performance will go on to be the prime candidates for next Kao Council, but it will come at the expense of not being able to perform in the class production. And thus, the final curtain rises on the tale of the youthful, comedic musical.
