Nils is the main protagonist of the series. He lives with his family on a farm in southern Sweden. Nils is lazy and disrespectful to others and enjoys tormenting the animals on the farm. After the farm's tomte magically shrinks Nils smaller than the animals, he gains the ability to speak and understand animals' language. When the farm animals seek revenge, Nils flies away with a flock of wild geese on their migration to the north of Sweden for the summer. Nils fervently wants to be restored to his original size.

Nils is a lazy and greedy boy whose mischief makes everyone miserable, whether it's his parents, the animals on his farm, or the fairy-like tomte he captures one day. But he gets his comeuppance when the pint-sized tomte casts a spell to make Nils just as tiny as him! The only way to break the spell is to go on a journey to distant Lapland with Morten the farm goose, Carrot the hamster, and a flock of wild geese. 
 
Along the way, he contends with cruel witches, talking statues, wise ravens, and one very persistent fox. Under the guidance of the stern but caring Captain Akka, leader of the flock, Nils discovers his kind heart and his love for nature. But when the time comes, will he be able to choose between his human family and his feathered friends?

He began his voice acting career with the German dub of [The Bad News Bears](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bad_News_Bears_(TV_series)), and has since gone on to other things, such as being the dubover artist of Jason Priestley and Aamir Khan. He was best known as the teacher Jan Günzel in the ARD series Lindenstraße.

On Monday 28 July 2014, he did not return from a mountain tour to the Edelweißlahnerkopf. After his wife made a missing report to the local police, a search and rescue mission were started by the mountain rescue service and the police. His body was found on Friday 1 August 2014. He died as a result of a fall by accident. He left behind his wife and their two daughters.

Nils Holgersson is a young boy on a farm who is cruel to the animals. But when he catches the farm's little goblin it becomes one prank too many. He is magically shrunk and suddenly the farm animals are out for revenge. He flees on the back of the goose Morten and they join up with a flock of wild geese. Together they travel all over Sweden, with Nils hoping to find a way to become big again. 
 
Note: The film was produced in 1982, but it didn't receive a theatrical release. It became available to the public in 1995 when it got a home release. It wasn't until January 2015 when it would see its first screening in theaters, more than three decades after its production.
