Max joined the UN Spacy aboard the SDF-1 Macross during the events of Space War I. His first combat assignment was to Skull Squadron&#039;s Vermillion Team, under the newly promoted Hikaru Ichijo. Max quickly distinguished himself in combat, which came as a surprise to those around him due to his quiet personality. ~! Max would play a key role in helping his comrades escape a Zentradi ship after a botched recon mission leads to the whole team&#039;s capture. !~  After earning a reputation for his skill, word of Max finds its way to female Zentradi ace Milia Fallyna. Seeking a challenge, Milia attacks the Macross to draw Max out and engages him in a dogfight. Eventually, Max is able to damage Milia&#039;s Queadluun Rau power armor and drive her off.  ~!  Later, Max encounters Milia in an arcade within the Macross. Not realizing her identity, he challenges Milia to a friendly game on a Valkyrie simulator. Max wins, and manages to secure a &quot;date&quot; with Milia before she rushes off. The date takes an unexpected turn as Milia attacks Max with a knife. Once again, Max defeats her, and in doing so Milia realizes her feelings toward Max were actually love. The two are married shortly thereafter, as the first human-Zentradi couple. !~  As a team leader, Max continued to distinguish himself for the remainder of Space War I. In its aftermath, he continued to serve in Skull Squadron, based out of Macross City. ~! During this time, he and Milia had their first daughter, Komilia. !~ ~! Rising through the ranks of the UN Spacy, Max was eventually awarded command of the Macross 7 colony fleet. Also aboard the massive City 7 colony ship were his youngest daughter Mylene and now estranged wife Milia. !~ ~! Several years into its journey, Macross 7 would fall under attack from the mysterious Protodeviln.    Fortunately, forward thinking Max had already established a program to investigate the use of music in combat for use against other Zentradi factions they may encounter. As it turned out, Sound Energy was the only weakness of the Protodeviln. Max approved expansion of the pilot program. In addition to Basara Nekki, the remaining members of Fire Bomber joined to create Sound Force&mdash;including Mylene. Though initially opposed to Mylene&#039;s participation, Max eventually allowed it.    Late in the conflict, Max would personally lead a daring raid against the Protodeviln&#039;s home base. Though the team would take heavy casualties, Max made it back. Around this time, the meddling of Mylene and the tense events of the Protodeviln conflict began to draw Max and Milia together again. They would once again fight side by side in the final battle against the Protodeviln. !~

In 1999, a giant alien spacecraft crash lands on South Ataria island. Humanity proceeds to attempt to rebuild this marvel, but political conflicts centered around the Macross result in a global war. After 10 years, the Unification Wars are finally over, the new Earth United Nations Government is in power, and work on the Macross is complete. 
 
On the day of the launching ceremony, its main cannon fires on its own, destroying an alien spacecraft. This fateful day marks the beginning of the war between the humans on the Macross and the Zentradi, a race of humanoid aliens of giant proportions.

A.D. 2009 - The human race is in the middle of a three-way war with a race of giant humanoid aliens called the Zentraedi (male) and Meltrandi (female). After executing a space fold that sent it and part of South Atalia Island to the edge of the Solar System, the space fortress Macross is on its way back to Earth. During a small skirmish with Zentraedi forces, young pilot Hikaru Ichijo rescues idol singer Lynn Minmay and their relationship develops as they're stranded somewhere within the ship. But shortly after returning to Macross City, Minmay is captured by the Zentraedi, and Hikaru and female officer Misa Hayase end up back on Earth - only to view the aftermath of the destruction of their civilization. Only a song discovered eons ago - along with Minmay's voice - can determine the outcome of the war.

35 years have passed since Lynn Minmay had brought peace between the Zentradi and the humans in the events of Macross. Nekki Basara is a guitarist and a singer of the band Fire Bomber. Living in a less-developed part of the flying colony City 7 which is looking for a habitable planet, he composes and sings songs in the belief that music holds a greater power. 
During its flight, an unknown alien race appeared and started laying siege upon City 7. However, its attacks are not conventional -- instead of trying to destroy them, they steal what is known as "spiritia", rendering victims unresponsive and zombie-like. During these battles, Basara always goes out into the middle of the warzone, singing his songs and expecting friend and foe to listen and be moved by his music.

"On Stage" focuses on Ray's past as a fighter pilot, how he first met Basara, and how they formed Fire Bomber. In "Which One Do You Love," when Millia falls ill, she feels her life expectancy is running short and attempts to have Mylene engaged to Basara.

Flash Back 2012 is Minmay's farewell concert. Featuring some of her best songs, the music is performed over various scenes and events taken from the Macross TV series as well as the movie "Do You Remember Love?". Also included is a newly animated closing sequence showing the launch of Misa's colony vessel, the Megaroad-01, into space.

The headquarters of the Fleet are located on the 7th battleship 'MACROSS' class . Along the way the Fleet encounters of the Barauta. And then in the following year, 2046 A.D. In a sector of the combat zone the story begins.. 
Note: This series is very different from the rest of the Macross series. Its plot is not focused on space combat; in fact mechas don't appear in the story at all. Instead the story revolves around a sport called "air blading" (it's pretty similar to the Airgear manga), using the Macross universe as a context.

Jenius (now 16 years old) is still conflicted about her feelings for lead vocalist Nekki Basara and wavering in her strength as a musician/vocalist. Acting on her desire to be on equal footing with Basara, Mylene takes an opportunity to perform with the group Jamming Angels as lead vocalist.
