Pyunma was originally from an undisclosed part of Africa. Originally, 23-years-old Pyunma was to have been made a slave along with the people of his tribe, but he escaped from his chains and ran off. Cornered by the slave drivers, all seemed lost until the slave drivers were shot dead by Black Ghost agents from out of nowhere. Holding Pyunma at gunpoint, they led him to their plane so he could be taken to the cybernetics laboratory.

Cyborg 009 is a story about nine experimental cyborgs (eight male and one female), which have been collected by the evil terrorist group, Black Ghost. Those nine cyborgs with the aid of a scientist turn against Black Ghost's control. Black Ghost in turn starts sending more cyborgs to destroy their first nine experimental cyborgs and causing destruction all around the world.

Episodes 1-48 aired on TV. Episodes 49-51 consist of the "GOD'S WAR" OVA. An additional recap episode aired between episodes 47 and 49.
 
The "GOD'S WAR: Prologue" bonus arc is not intended to be in continuity with the other episodes, as it was instead produced as a teaser at adapting the unwritten final chapter of the Cyborg 009 manga. TV Tokyo could not air more than 51 episodes and the first two OVA episodes were cut and merged together into one episode, leaving the final one unaired.

Cyborg 009 is the story of a half-Japanese juvenile delinquent, Shimamura Joe AKA "Cyborg 009." Though the organization intends to turn the group into super-powered killing machines, it's not long before Joe and his new companions rebel against Black Ghost and make their escape with the help of an old scientist.

He was a veteran seiyuu born in Chiba Prefecture.  He retired from voice acting on December 31st, 2000 when he felt a weakness in his own voice. Sogabe died on September 17th, 2006 at around 8 PM from esophageal cancer, with which he had been diagnosed two months before.

The story will depict Joe Shimamura and the other cyborgs' struggle with the Bresudo, a group of people who possess superhuman powers and intellect, and have manipulated human history since ancient times. Their goals are unknown, and they cast a dark shadow over the world. Though few people believe in the Bresdo's existence, one American journalist named Lucie Davenport heads to Texas to contact a certain family, and she meets the cyborgs. The cyborgs themselves have been freed from their duty of protecting humanity ever since the establishment of the UN Guardian troops, and they now live quiet lives of peace.

The story begins in 2013 when skyscrapers in London, Moscow, Berlin, and New York are destroyed by simultaneous bombings. The indiscriminate terrorism by an unknown group with unknown motives sets off widespread panic throughout the world.

There was once a group of nine cyborg fighters who rescued humanity from threats, but they had disbanded to their home countries. Now the man who created them, Dr. Gilmore, has summoned and assembled them back together again.
