Alto's classmate and friendly rival. He is an excellent marksman, and his motto is to always acquire his targets, be it an enemy or a woman—maintaining his reputation as a considerable ladies' man. He is the originator of Alto's nickname, "Alto Hime" (Princess Alto). Aside from leading a normal school life, he is also the 2nd Lieutenant of the S.M.S. Skull Squadron and pilots a blue VF-25G (gunner/sniper version). He initially expresses doubt over Alto joining the Skull Squadron, but later accepts him. For normal daily life he wears corrective glasses. His older sister Jessica took care of him since childhood after their parents died, but she commited suicide a few years ago after being disgraced by a friendly fire incident. Michael is also one of the most observant characters, noticing the love triangle between Alto, Ranka, and Sheryl as well as catching on to Grace's insidious plot behind the scenes. He also has a nickname which is "Michel".    ~!Michael Blanc is presumed dead after being fatally wounded by a stage 2 Vajra and thrown into space during the events of episode 20, just after telling Klan that he loved her while saving her from the Vajra assault in the S.M.S. macronization chamber.  In the movies he won't die. During the final battle on Vajra planet than Klan was hit by enemy fire, he jumped  to her with the words "I won't let you die alone" but they both survived in the end.!~

After being threatened by extinction at the hands of alien invaders called the Zentradi, humanity undertook the task of guaranteeing itself a future by launching fleets of colony ships into space. On Macross Frontier, one such fleet, high school student Saotome Alto's life is changed forever: the fleet is suddenly attacked by unidentified creatures while he is performing aerial stunts for a concert by the wildly popular idol Sheryl. 
Alto quickly finds himself in the cockpit of a new-model fighter struggling to protect Ranka Lee, a young girl he met only hours earlier, from the invaders' swath of destruction. Noting his performance during this incident, the S.M.S. Skull Squadron private military company invites Alto to join their organization, where he continues protecting his friends and Macross Frontier.
