Ikutsuki appears as the cheerful advisor, chairman, and 'boss' of SEES, he is always trying to keep the group in high spirits while discovering secrets about the Shadows. As the adviser of SEES, he is a polite and sophisticated man, never needing to change his tone or manner. He is friendly, always accompanied with a gentle smile and a set of bad puns and unfunny jokes to provide comedy relief when it is needed, and perhaps when it isn't needed
   
~!In truth, Ikutsuki is working toward a completely opposite end, sharing Mitsuru's grandfather's dream of The Fall and the coming of Nyx. He was one of the scientists involved in the experiments at Gekkoukan ten years ago, including the creation of artificial Persona-users. Ikutsuki manipulates SEES to destroy the twelve Arcana Shadows, promising them that once they do so they will eliminate the Dark Hour. But killing the twelve Arcana Shadows actually melds them together, allowing for the re-emergence of the thirteenth Arcana, Death. It is Death's function to summon Nyx and destroy the world. After his lies are discovered, Ikutsuki reprograms Aigis to sacrifice the members of SEES as offerings for Nyx, and then kills Takeharu Kirijo. When Aigis breaks the programming and frees SEES, Ikutsuki jumps to his death from the top of Tartarus after being wounded in the stomach by a bullet. Unfortunately, his mission to revive Death was already complete by the time of his suicide.!~

As the season turns to autumn, Makoto and the other members of S.E.E.S. inch ever closer to the end of their battles with the Shadows. Through the battles, some must face the deaths of friends and family, some must notice what precious things must be protected, and some must find meaning in the conflicts that have occurred.

After realizing the value of life and the importance of his own allies, Makoto finally got his smile back. He finds himself learning more about those comrades and getting closer to them. Makoto wishes that everything will continue just as they are. However, little by little, the pieces and people in Makoto's new, happy life begin to fall apart.

A teenager who was orphaned as a young boy returns to the city of his childhood. Shortly after transferring to Gekkoukan High School, he is attacked by Shadows &mdash; creatures that feed on the minds of their victims. The assault awakens his Persona, Orpheus, his only chance at defeating these creatures of the night. He soon discovers that he shares this special ability with other students at his new school. From them he learns of the "Dark Hour," a hidden time that exists between one day and the next, swarming with Shadows. He joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES), and with his new friends, confronts the threat of the Shadows.<br><br>
After signing a contract in which he "accepts his fate of his own free will," the main character battles with the other members of SEES against the Greater Shadows, incarnations with traits and appearances similar to those of the first 12 Major Arcana of the Tarot. While this is occurring, he continues to encounter and eventually befriends the child who gave him the contract to sign at the very beginning of the game, an entity who refers to himself as Pharos, and is really the incarnation of Death, the 13th Arcana.
