Danzou Shimura was an elder of Konohagakure. As the founder and leader of Root, Danzou gained notoriety as The Darkness of the Shinobi (忍の闇) because of his frequent unsanctioned actions and his often-suspected (but rarely proven) undermining of specific Konoha personnel. Despite his decades of suspicious deeds, Danzō only ever acted in what he believed were the village's best interests. He was appointed the Sixth Hokage Candidate (六代目火影候補) after Pain's assault on the village.

Professor Saisen once worked at Touto University and led Sakaki through his three-month internship which ended over his decision to lead almost the entire medical program over to Comerica. The professor's contempt for Sakaki as a person is only amplified by Sakaki's psychometry and a hatred for all espers. If not for Kaoru's seasickness and his spleen rupturing, there would have been a mortal confrontation at sea. Even as Sakaki surgically repairs his spleen (along with Shiho's fallacious belief that her Level 7 psychometry does away with the necessity of actually appraising a situation at proximity to learn the whole story), it is hard to say if the Professor has matured enough to understand that success is about engagement rather than simply education. He still supports the team by offering them work, and has helped them out on several occasions. He provided Sigma with his Leostriker, and later helped smuggle the team out of the city after being imprisoned by Alpha. He has piloted several Gustavs in his lifetime and has the control stick of each of them in a display case.
