Marilla's brother, a shy, awkward man who takes a liking to Anne from the start. The two become fast friends. He is far less talkative than Anne, but is a very good listener. He also sometimes lets Anne have things which Marilla considers too frivolous, such as a dress with puffed sleeves.

The previous successor to the Hokuto Shinken style. Ryuken (リュウケン, Ryūken?) was the sifu who adopted and trained Raoh, Toki, Jagi, and Kenshiro in the Hokuto Shinken style. After he chose Kenshiro as his successor, he was slain by Raoh, a feat made possible by chance; he suffered a stroke at the moment he was about to seal Raoh's fist. Kenshiro did not know the real cause of Ryuken's death, having been told that Ryuken died from illness, until Toki revealed the shameful secret during their first battle. Kyoko's father-in-law was thrilled to welcome Kyoko as a member of the family, but when his son Soichiro died only six months after marrying Kyoko, Otonashi continued to let Kyoko stay in his home and gave her the job of manager at Maison Ikkoku in hopes of taking her mind off Soichiro. 

First seen writing a series of extremely complex mathematical equations on the asphalt, this sage is doubtless the most mysterious human character in the whole series. He previews each upcoming episode in prophetic visions (which are labeled as such), is able to intuit who is going to be Lil' Slugger's next victim, and appears to have an overarching, indeed archetypal understanding of what's going on with the plot (and for most of the series, he seems to be the only one). He also seems to have the rather bizarre power to go in and out of reality and delusion. While this may initially seem to be a sign of senility, the conclusions he ever so cryptically and poetically hints at always bear fruit, albeit in 20/20 hindsight. He makes a profound mystical connection with Mitsuhiro Maniwa as the series nears its climax, and also has a hand in helping Misae Ikari to find her husband, which in turn helps him to get back to reality. His family is present at his deathbed (as is Maromi), but other than that very little in the way of backstory is provided for him in the series. It is hinted Kawazu had accidentally hit him with a car prior to the series, hence his permanent stay at the hospital. He dies in the second to last episode, more or less likely from the combined effects of the car accident and old age, but not before passing on his mantle as psychopomp to Maniwa.

Junko's grandfather and creator of the &quot;Time Bokan&quot; time machines. A famous scientist, he wasn't recovered until the 27th episode, but soon joined Tanpei's team on other journeys. Dr. Ichigaki is a demon scientist who took advantage of three martial art students by poisoning their master. Dr. Ichigaki then appeared and offered to heal their master if they agreed to participate in an experiment of his. Dr. Ichigaki turned them into Makai minions (Usually called M1, M2, M3, or Dr. Ichigaki&#039;s minions). After his team&#039;s defeat in the tournament, he unveils a serum (&quot;Instant Gene Therapy&quot;) which almost instantly enhances him into a monster form, but is creamed by Yusuke just as quickly. In the manga he is confirmed to be alive.

The Bakabon family&#039;s odd neighbor, named so for his tendency to say Rerere (rather than are (あれ)) when confused about the countless shenanigans in the series. He is almost always seen sweeping the street outside of his yard. He is bald, has a moustache but no nose, ears that extend slightly off of his head, and wears a yukata and geta sandals.
