Arata, from Amawakuni, is outgoing, full of energy, and becomes bored quickly. At birth, his grandmother, Makari, claimed that he was a girl but still raised him as boy. He is part of the Hime clan, which provides the princesses to maintain balance in the world. With no other girls to succeed the current princess, Arata poses as a girl to become the princess' successor. At the succession ceremony, he witnesses the princess' assassination and is quickly framed for murder. He runs into Kando forest, where he switches places with Arata Hinohara from present-day Japan.

The main character of the series and one of only 7 Campione. Originally a retired middle school baseball player, after his grandfather asked him to return a stone tablet to a friend in Sardinia named Lucretia Zola a series of events take place in which he kills the god Verethragna, a Persian god of Victory. Due to a curse, any god killed by a mortal, that mortal shall obtain the abilities of the killed god. These are the people known as Campione.  Godou obtains the abilities of Verethragna's 10 forms: The Wind, Bull, White Stallion, Camel, Boar, The Youth, Raptor, Ram, Goat and The Warrior.  Each of these forms give Godou a different ability; however each also has a condition for activation.  He's very uncomfortable with having Erica, Yuri and Liliana competing for his affection and even tries to distance himself from them, even though having a harem is one of the Campione's privilege.

He is the most hated person to both exorcists and Devils. After being banished by the Orthodox Church, Freed sided with the Fallen Angels in Raynare's plot to steal Asia's Sacred Gear. Riku Seya, usually referred to by his surname, is a classmate of Maho's who meets her upon their entering junior high school. He is generally a soft-spoken boy who initially takes an interest in Shūichi, whom he believes to be a girl, when they first meet. Seya later becomes angry at Maho for stringing him along with Shūichi, though soon reconciles with her and even starts dating her.

A De Metrio Ovid pilot whose comrades are Izo and Kirius. After being defeated by Madoka early in the series, he reappears later as Astelia's maid, complete with maid outfit. Despite being relieved from his duty, he has continued wearing the outfit because he doesn't have a change of clothes. However, Astelia has given him a credit card so he is not short on money, which caused Izo and Kirius to question why he hasn't bought new clothes with it.   

He applies to work at BWH with Izo and Kirius at the end of the first season.

Sorata is the male protagonist of the story. He is a second-year student of Suiko, who lives in room 101 of Sakurasou Dormitory. As many of the Sakurasou Dormitory residents have outstanding grades and art skills, he often feels plain and normal among them. He is chosen by Chihiro to take care of Mashiro's daily life, although he resists at first, but he ends up getting used to it.

François Auric is the Flame Haze with the title "Conveyor of Shaped Silhouettes". He is contracted to "Arrangement of Miraculous Springs" Grogach, who is sealed inside the jar-shaped Vessel named Splet.François' abilities revolve around the manipulation of water. (Wikia)

Kirito is a "solo" player, a player who hasn't joined a guild and usually works alone. He is also one of the very few people to have had the privilege to play in the beta testing period of Sword Art Online. His game alias, Kirito, is created by taking the syllables of the first and last Kanji of his real last and first names respectively: (Kirigaya Kazuto). 

In the real world, he lives with his mother and younger sister in a family of 3.  When Kayaba announced the start of the death game, he is surprised, but unlike everyone else he quickly gets over it and accepts it to an extent. He invited his friend Klein to go with him but Klein had to find his friends in the game. He was invited to join them but he declined as he couldn't take the pressure of protecting them even with his beta testing knowledge of the game.

Konatsu's little brother. Goes to the same high school as her, and is a part of the student council. Temporarily joined the choir club that his sister created. She blackmails him into joining but he quits afterwards. Also helped her advertise her choir club.

Appeared in episode 12. He is the leader of the VMC (Venus Momo Club) and has an obsession with Momo.

The vice president of Minami Middle School's student council.

The main protagonist. 16 years old. First year student at Seio High School. Aoba is a bright, considerate young man. He excels at athletics, especially basketball. He was an ordinary Japanese high school student from 2014 who got transported into the year 2088 and now fights for the Free Pact Alliance.
