Atobe Keigo is the main person behind the 200 members of Hyoutei Gakuen Tennis Team. Aside from being the strongest player in the team he is also the student council president, thus making him a very influential and powerful figure in his school.

A young orphan, it was the death of his parents during a Gamilus planet bomb attack on the Miura Peninsula that drove him to follow in his older brother Mamoru's footsteps and join the Earth Defence Force. He is initially hot-headed and prone to bursts of anger, and at first blames Captain Okita for the death of his brother in battle. However, he matures during the first season thanks to his responsibility as the Yamato 's battle chief, and ultimately Okita nominates him acting captain when he is unable to continue. Though apparently never formally promoted to captain, Kodai continues commanding the Yamato and its crew for most of the rest of the franchise, only relinquishing command twice: to Yamanami in Be Forever Yamato, and to a revived Okita during Final Yamato. He is also a talented pilot, flying his own Cosmo Zero fighter as the leader of the Black Tigers, and in the second season frequently joining the Cosmo Tigers in battle. Reiji Mitsurugi is an esteemed prosecutor and an old friend of [Ryuuichi Naruhodou](https://anilist.co/character/9879/Naruhodou-Ryuuichi). During his first four years as a prosecutor, he had a perfect win record, and he was a ruthless man who would do anything to get a guilty verdict for the defendant. This all ended when Naruhodou defeated him.  

Mitsurugi is generally seen as a snob due to his skeptical, ruthless and generally aloof nature that differs little between everyday life and the courtroom. However, he has a strong sense of right and wrong, and acts only in ways that he believes are fair and just. He is also shown to care deeply for those he considers friends, going to great lengths to assist them when he believes they require it. For example, he chartered a private jet to come to Naruhodou's aid when the defense attorney was in desperate need of his aid. Generally, Mitsurugi is calm and level-headed when talking with people, although he does tend to come off as a little cold and, sometimes, rather condescending. Mitsurugi is also very insecure in general and hates showing his weaknesses.  

In court, Mitsurugi usually has the trial precisely planned out, ensuring his victory. Because of this, he tends to become easily ruffled with anything that does not conform to his plan. In particular, he tries to stick to standard courtroom proceedings, trying to make the witnesses state their names and professions, although he regularly has a great deal of difficulty with this task due to the often rather eccentric characters called as witnesses in his cases.

AL is the artificial intelligence support system which was originally part of the ARX-7 Arbalest.  AL becomes permanently locked to Sousuke after his initial use of AL during the hijacking incident.  Also, because the original programmer is dead it is impossible to reprogram AL to work with anyone other than Sousuke.  At the beginning of the series AL is nothing more than your average arm slave operating system, but as the series progresses AL starts to develop a personality much to Sousuke's dismay.  AL begins tuning into AM/FM band radio stations in an effort to expand its vocabulary, cultural understanding, and social knowledge.  This all leads AL to occasionally attempt to tell Sousuke jokes, criticize Sousuke's own short comings, or make random exclamations and comments during the midst of battle.      During the two "End of Day by Day" novels Sousuke and AL's conflict really comes to a head and their inability to work together causes the Arbalest's Lambda Driver to become almost completely unusable.  Because of this, Sousuke begins to detest the Arbalest and asks to be allowed to pilot a regular M9 during his missions.  However, by the end of the two novels they were able to eventually find a mutual respect for one another and are able to operate the Lambda Driver system at a level exceeding all previous examples.  During the Novels "A Dancing Very Merry Christmas" and "Continuing On My Own" AL shows that it is now capable of preforming autonomous advanced battle maneuvers and making precision shots with the Arbalest's projectile weaponry.  AL developed this ability by reviewing and analyzing all of the combat data that it has acquired while working with Sousuke over the previous 9 months.  Immediately following the final battle in the novel "Continuing On My Own", AL along with the Lambda Driver is recovered from the wreckage of the destroyed Arbalest by Wraith.  Towards the end of the novel "Burning One Man Force" is is discovered that Wraith has transported AL and the Arbalest's Lambda Driver to a surviving Mithril base in Anchorage, Alaska.  While there AL has worked together with Sarah Miller to design and build a whole new Arm Slave tailored specifically to match Sousuke's combat style.  The new AS is called the ARX-8 Laevatein, named after a legendary sword in Norse mythology called the Laevateinn.  In the novel "Come Make My Day" AL and Sousuke have a one-on-one conversation where both admit that they have missed one another ever since the destruction of the Arbalest. By this time, AL appears to have "matured" enough to hold a personality mirroring that of Sousuke's (if the latter had grown up in different conditions); however, his jokes and comments have not lessen at all, keeping to the offbeat comedic mood of the Full Metal Panic! storyline.

~!Akai Shuichi is an American of Japanese descent and member of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation, on special assignment in Japan to capture Vermouth. His superior is James Black and his partner is Jodie Starling.!~

~!He had infiltrated the Black Organization under the name Moroboshi Dai - and the codename "Rye" - as a mole and dated Miyano Akemi, one of their low-ranking members, to feed information to the FBI. In order to facilitate the latter, and later because he had genuinely developed feelings for Akemi, Akai saw himself forced to break up his then on-going relationship with Jodie. Later on, his cover in the Black Organization was accidentally blown by his colleague Andre Camel, and when Akemi was killed, he declared her murderer, Gin (with whom he seems to have had some tensions even before his exposure), his personal enemy. !~

His ability to deduct information about cases like a genius detective were among reasons why (along with Haibara's fear of him) made it seem likely that his identity was that of Black Organisation member, Bourbon.  Akai's disguise as Subaru was revealed during the Scarlet Truth.!~

Madara was sealed in a shrine until he was accidentally released by Natsume. Because Madara was trapped in a material form for so long, Madara ordinary takes on the shape of a maneki neko (lucky cat), leading Natsume to nickname him Nyanko-sensei. In this form, other people can see him, leading for Natsume having to ask his guardians if he could keep him as a pet.   

Madara is a powerful spirit, who protects Natsume from others and teaches him spells on occasion, in return for Natsume's promise to give him the Book of Friends when he dies. They often fight each other, which leads to Natsume punching Madara on the face and knocking him out. Despite his protests of not being a cat, he likes to play with cat toys. Nyanko's design is based on a lucky cat statue Midorikawa was given as a child. 

In the anime, Natsume is more respectful to Madara.

Fiamma of the Right is the leader of God's Right Seat and the main antagonist of the magic side in the Toaru Majutsu no Index Light Novels. His name is derived from the Italian name for flame, "Fiamma."   Among the members of God's Right Seat, he is seen as the highest position, and the other members are shown to be more loyal to him than they are to the Pope. Behind his calm personality hides a manipulative and ambitious person who doesn't hesitate to overstep his bounds past the authority of the Roman Catholic Church, use the entirety of Russian Orthodox Church, and even declare war against Academy City.  The leader and center of God's Right Seat, with him stating as long as he's alive, the positions of Acqua, Terra and Vento can be replaced, but if he's gone God's Right Seat as an organization would also be gone beyond salvaging.   He seeks Touma and Index, the former for his power, which Fiamma considers the Holy Right, and the latter for her knowledge in inaccessible forms of magic. Fiamma also uses his status as the current Pope's mentor to classify Touma as a heretic, thus enabling him to fulfill his purpose to capture Touma. He holds enough power to blow away all of Rome in one blast, but 2/3 of the damage is avoided by the Pope absorbing it to protect the city, resulting in the Pope being hospitalized; however, part of the Vatican was still damaged by the attack.

A direct subordinate of the One-Eyed King and one of Aogiri Tree's leaders. He was a former member of the Chinese ghoul organization Chi She Lian. 

As one of the Aogiri Tree leaders and a trusted subordinate working under the One-Eyed King, Tatara comes off as a rather loyal individual. He is portrayed as composed and stoic mostly. He often monitors the activities of the Aogiri executives, but kills in cold-blood when embarking on a mission. He is also proud of his immense stamina when fighting and the accuracy of his calculations as well. Tatara seems to have a taste for precision; as shown when he turns down Kaneki considering he's an artificial one-eyed ghoul. He appears to hold a grudge against Houji, to the extent that even the Quinque associated with him, is enough to make him enraged and lose his near unflappable composure.

As the second-in-command of Aogiri, it can be inferred that he is quite powerful.
