Midorima often acts reserved, mean, and brusque with others, coming off as arrogant—although Takao claims Midorima is just "tsundere." He has a hard time acting kind to his opponents and generally hates "fooling around" (although Takao often pursues him into it). He can be seen, at all times, with a lucky item due to his strong belief and passion for horoscope. He is left-handed, and always bandages his dominant hand outside of matches (claiming that his hand must be in perfect condition so nothing will influence his shot).  Formerly a member of the basketball team of Teikou Middle School, Midorima is a member of the Generation of Miracles (Kiseki no Sedai); during his time with Teikou, his jersey number was seven, switching to six as he joined Shuutoku's. He also served as a vice-captain under Akashi.  His strength is his absolute accuracy, which is shown in his shots that always go in. He can shoot accurately no matter how far he is from the ring. Tenya may look severe, but he's actually just a very serious person, who takes everything, even the most insignificant thing, seriously. A testament to his generally hyperactive and intense behavior, Tenya often exhibits plenty of peculiar tics, such as moving his arms around in strange chopping patterns or sometimes twitching his body uncontrollably. Tenya is very humble, willing to admit to his mistakes, apologize for rude behavior, and improve in areas he lacks. Being part of the highly-esteemed Ida Family of Heroes, Tenya is proud of his lineage and works hard to meet his expectations. He greatly admires his older brother, Tensei (also known as the Turbo Hero: Ingenium), and aspires to become a similar hero.

Tenya's Quirk Engine gives him car-like engines in each of his calves, giving him incredible running speed and extreme kicking power. Tenya needs to fuel his engines by drinking orange juice. Tenya's engines have multiple gears; it is currently unknown how many, but it has been implied that there are more than three.

He learnt the art of tea making from his grandfather and is now a tea expert. His tea is known to have a relaxing attribute and is easy to drink too. Though he seems pretty clueless at times, he is pretty sharp and level headed at others. Although his tea is excellent, he totally sucks at cooking, and as such, his cooking is feared by everyone. He is a big fan of cats, and has a pet cat named Kinako at home, which was a stray he picked up. He is not really on speaking terms with his twin brother, whom he wants to make up with him.
