The hero of the story who joins the Stellvia foundation's space program so that she could "see the stars while looking forward, rather than having to look up". In the beginning, she fluctuates between complete confidence in her abilities and believing she couldn't do anything. The series depicts her as extremely diligent, although she is also a natural genius. As the series progresses, she learns to understand her mistakes and not think that she has to be perfect or else fail. For instance, after a rocky start to her training, during which she was dead last in her class at piloting, she takes the advice of [Kouta](https://anilist.co/character/195) and realizes she was trying to keep track of far too much information on her ship displays. Her piloting improves dramatically as a result. Despite her early setbacks as a pilot, her programming abilities are top notch from the very start, and she eventually combines the two in order to become even more formidable in the cockpit. She is called Shipon because the first time she piloted one of the Biancas she flew around like a ping-pong ball.

Kana is a transfer student. She presents little social skill, rarely talking to anyone. In effect most of her classmates dislike her, her rude attitude causing her classmates to avoid her.     ~!She is the last hope at defeating the alien invaders from completely annihilating the human race. Mika is a shy and clumsy girl who is constantly falling down and bumping into things. As an only child, she has taken advantage of her position and has been spoiled by her parents. After meeting Manami, Mika becomes very attached to her. At first she was the only member in the student council, taking the position of secretary, but was later joined by Manami when she became the student council president. At first she is unsure about Manami's strange enthusiasm and is unsure how to work with her within the council. As time passes, Mika begins to become more enthused herself by going along with Manami's plans to reform student life at Seioh. Mika seems to be the least mature of the five main characters, even going as far as to believe &quot;little people&quot; finished the work for the school festival promotional video while she, Minami and Mutsuki were sleeping.

The Sixth Neck (六の首, Roku no kubi), she is a small, squeaky-voiced catgirl (her name is derived from neko, the Japanese word for cat) who is often seen wearing a nurse's outfit and wielding a giant syringe. ~! The class representative of 1-C, Ichijou is easily the most surreal character in the surreal world of Pani Poni.  She is inexplicably capable of breaking all physical laws in order to make a joke. Her power is used equally for good and for fun: sometimes she&#039;ll be the savior of the class, while at other times she only manages to exacerbate the situation. She is able to carry her youngest sister around in her pocket.    Ichijou is quite muted, using short sentences to express herself; she is also a master of the non sequitur. The class brushes off most of her odd behavior and abilities, simply chiming, &quot;Don&#039;t worry, about it.  It&#039;s Ichijou.&quot; She is one of two characters aware of the aliens observing the class.


A somewhat strange and exceedingly optimistic student who always sees everything in the single most positive light possible: the polar opposite of Nozomu, who sees only the dark side of things and is constantly in despair. Another episode hinted that she was slitting her wrists as it is shown that her wrists were wrapped in bandages.!~    Kafuka Fuura is a pen name, taken from the name of author Franz Kafka, and is quite at odds with her sunny attitude. Her real name is has not been officially revealed; however,  ~!she was referred to as &quot;An-chan&quot; in a flashback, and the surname &quot;Akagi&quot; appears in the attendance book, leading fans to speculate that her real name is An Akagi. This would parallel Nozomu&#039;s comment in the first chapter about her personality resembling Anne of Green Gables (赤毛のアン, Akage no An).!~

Beauty is the female heroine of Bobobo's group and usually the only girl when Torpedo Girl isn't around. She has mid-length pink hair with short bangs and blue eyes. Unlike the puns used for many of the characters, she received her name because the manga writer was looking at a video tape of the movie American Beauty when he created her character. A stereotypical teenage manga heroine, she is one of the few sane characters who is the first to join Bo-bobo and was the only citizen to still have hair after the attack of the town she lived in. She initially wanted to join Bobobo because she sought a life of adventure. Bobobo let her join him, but rejected Pickle at the same time. She has loving feelings for Gasser after he rescued her (the first time they met), but doesn't say anything about them. She is often exasperated by Bo-bobo's odd behavior or the behavior or actions of others, usually with the same face. She's the only person in the group that doesn't fight (Except in the video games, but that's not considered canon), but still criticizes the others' fighting styles. There are a few rare occurrences where she was forced to fight to defend herself, but it's only when Bobobo isn't around to protect her and at the last minute someone would come and save her (mainly Bobobo and Gasser). Beauty worries about her friends' safety and finds them as her own family and though finds Bo-bobo crazy she idolizes him greatly. She seems to be a random girl who joins Bobobo's group till Softon is revealed to be her brother; infering that she may have powers of her own or is decended from a powerful bloodline. By the end of the series, she is travelling the world with Heppokomaru/Gasser.

Binchou-tan, the main character in the anime, is a young girl who lives by herself in an old house far from town. As her name suggests, she often wears a piece of charcoal on her head. Each episode depicts a day in the life of Binchou-tan who needs to work in order to buy food and necessities.    She is assumed to be an orphan because she lives by herself, refuses to answer shopkeepers who ask where her mother is and keeps to her habits of greeting and farewelling herself when traveling. She apparently, also possesses the ability to change the size of her body. Normally she is the size of a small child, but in some cases she can shrink herself to for instance fit in a shoe or to ride on the back of a duck.    She also treasures clothing made by her grandmother which becomes a plot point in one episode. Binchou-tan is initially a very lonely person. Her birthday is on May 07.

Fuko is a first year student at Tomoya's school (Technically, her age is same as Tomoya's), but she is always alone by herself, making wood carvings of starfish with a small knife to give to others as presents for her sister's upcoming wedding. Whenever Fuko sees something she thinks is incredibly cute she completely loses awareness of her surroundings, which Tomoya takes advantage of by playing a variety of pranks on her.

In the Radio Drama, Love Potion, Nonoko made a Love Potion which can make a pair of lovers to love their partners even more. Sumire tricked Mikan to drink the potion and ended up falling for Tsubasa. Natsume and Ruka also got affected by the potion, which resulted with Ruka falling for Natsume and Natsume falling for Mikan.    She belongs to the Technical Class. She is a Single Star student.

Not to be confused with Sara's Emily. Ralph also has an Emily, although she is a real little girl rather than a doll or Mimic, and she does not assist Ralph in his Strain. She sees herself as Ralph's new little sister. She strongly resembles Sara's Emily, except wearing a green dress rather than a red one, and she has strange blue markings on her face and hands. As a member of the alien race from which the E.M.L.Y. was developed, she is personally aware of everything that happens to the doll Emily and has developed an affection for Sara because of this. Maya is a female student in Ryūji's class who often hangs out with Nanako. She is a kogal. She has a crush on Yūsaku, and she circuitously opposes the idea of Taiga and Yūsaku being a couple, although she wants Taiga and Ryūji to be together.

Yayoi is a kind-hearted girl who is very sheltered. She is confined to a wheelchair and relies on her close and dearest friend Kanako for support. She also appears to be the only person who Kanako does not resent.     Yayoi is the story-teller in the storytelling parody vignettes in the anime. She quietly begins to tell her tale and often ends by beginning to say something stupid, which is promptly cut off.     She plays the piano well.     ~!Yayoi is another ghost, and her existence is fading which is why she is crippled to her wheelchair.     In the past, she used to quietly observe Kanako and wished to reach out to her, but the other girl would angrily reject her. Yayoi was revealed to be a very sheltered, privileged girl but she never tried to pass off responsibility to other girls. Any time she tried to help Kanako, she was turned away.     Her desire to become friends with Kanako was so strong that she eventually won over the other girl and they became close through Yayoi&#039;s kind, nurturing and gentle nature. !~
