Zagato was the High Priest to Princess Emeraude and Clef's right-hand man. When Hikaru, Umi and Fuu arrive at Cephiro, they're told that Zagato has captured Princess Emeraude and now their world is crumbling without its pillar. Zagato acts like a cold hearted man who will do anything to achieve his goal, indifferent to the chaos in Cephiro. However, his true purpose remains obscure until the girls fight him.   ~!It's later revealed that he and Emeraude were in love, which caused the unbalance in Cephiro. He had imprisoned Emeraude to prevent her from being killed by the girls, according to the prophecy.!~

Anthy's older brother, the acting chairman of the academy. Although barely present in the first season of the show, he later plays a pivotal role in the second and third seasons. His given name derives from the Japanese name for Venus, the Morning Star, which is identified with Lucifer.   ~!In his youth, Akio and Dios (Spanish word for "God") were apparently one and the same, but he became corrupted and lost his purpose as a "prince". Given the origin of his name and his role in the story, Akio may be compared to a fallen angel. In the manga, Anthy split the two intentionally; in the anime his fall is more vague — it appears to be catalyzed by Anthy, but likewise also by his own loss of faith in the world which tortures both him and his sister. In order to regain the power he lost when he lost his nobility, he creates the Dueling Game in order to create a Duelist with a sword noble and powerful enough to break the Rose Gate sealing his lost power. In the movie, "Dios" is merely an illusion created by Anthy to hide her brother's flaws so she can have a hero to believe in. In the anime, Akio uses Utena's familiarity with his "better half" to his advantage and becomes her lover. He expresses a desire to see her as his princess and to relieve her of the burden of becoming a prince. In the end, however, he uses her in the same way he uses all the other duelists, though she rebels against his idea of turning her into a submissive princess. Akio appears to dominate his sister Anthy both personally and sexually; their incestuous and power-driven relationship is key to Anthy's behavior in both the anime (where Anthy is, or pretends to be, held in thrall to her brother) and the movie (where events cause the balance of power to shift dramatically). However, the power is not completely held by Akio, as he is dependent upon Anthy for various reasons. In the anime, Akio appears to show genuine love for Anthy, and even feels her pain, but he is driven by his selfishness and very nature to continue his role in the duels. He grieves over his lost role of the Prince, but — as Anthy herself points out — he chose the path he walked down.  Akio is also a remarkable playboy with many and varied conquests. The list includes Kanae, Utena, Kozue, Tokiko, Touga, and even Kanae's mother; there are also insinuations involving Saionji and Wakaba. Akio's trademark symbol is his jazzy automobile, in which he invites friends, Duelists, and potential sexual partners to take a midnight ride. Creator Ikuhara has stated Akio's general appearance and presentations, as well as his car, are meant to represent the adult world and adult power.!~

Before joining Red Shield, David was the sole survivor of a chiropteran attack on his special forces squad. His father was also a member of Red Shield and was one of Saya's victims in the Vietnam incident. It is implied that he, along with Joel, are the only members that are descended from a line of Red Shield operatives. He is aware of Saya's past life and wishes to use her in the struggle against the chiroptera. David's red crystal item is a cross.   David tends to be straight-faced and serious, with a cold personality. However, he also assumes an unofficial guardianship of Kai and Riku, and would be instrumental in helping Kai come to terms with what Saya is and with Riku's conversion to a chevalier. He seems to take a particular interest in helping Kai grow up to be a strong man who can support Saya and Riku as their brother, despite their unusual natures.    ~!When the Red Shield's headquarters are destroyed and Saya is believed to have gone down with it, David sinks into a deep depression and becomes an alcoholic. Kai helps him get back on his feet, though, and he returns to his duties slightly more cheerful and able to smile than he had been before.   During the investigations into one of Cinq Flèches's lab, he finds Julia and she tells him something about the research they are doing. He talks to her briefly again at Amshel's party, and lets her know that she will always be welcome back with the group.   Towards the end of the series, Dr. Collins tries to murder Julia, but David protects her, getting critically wounded himself. Briareos is a prime example of the technology of cybernetic implants in Appleseed. Although his body is almost completely artificial, he suffers little loss in humanity. His outer skin is elastic, capable of feeling sensation, and the temperature can be adjusted to the cyborg's preferences. He has eight eyes mounted on his head, four in his face (The large sensor in the middle is actually his nose) two at the bases of his "rabbit ear" sensors, and two at the tips, which allow him to safely look around corners. His brain is augmented by an auxiliary brain that acts as an information processor, and is capable of handling information in a conceptual format rather than hard numerical data. His cybernetics controller, the Hecatonchires system, is named after the same 100 handed giants from Greek mythology. It is capable of controlling dozens of limbs or other cyborg bodies independently from one another, with no additional strain on the user. In the manga, it is pointed out that a cyborg equipped with the Hecatonchires system is able to fully control an entire aircraft carrier on his own. This ability to process multiple limbs at once is seen in the film when he is seen using one rifle in his Landmate's arms, and another in the control arms. The husband of Mercédès and the father of Albert, Fernand is general of the Parisian army and the leading candidate in France's presidential race.   ~!While touted as a hero, Fernand is actually a cowardly character, guilty of unethical practices including the murder of the King of Janina and a purchased nobility. In the past, he worked with Edmond Dantès and Danglars under his real name of Fernand Mondego. Though Edmond considered him a friend, Fernand was his rival for the affection of Mercédès.!~

Lantis is a powerful Kailu and the younger brother of High Priest Zagato. His reasons for coming back to Cephiro after the distruction of the Pillar shrouded in mystery. In the beginning it is only revealed that Lantis is a traveler, having seen many worlds during his self-imposed exile from Cephiro, one of the most important, and last, being Autozam - one of the three invading countries. For this reason, he is regarded with suspicion by the people of Cephiro.

~!Brief flashbacks during the show, reveal to us that Lantis was Princess Emeraude's Captain of the Guards before Lafarga. The time period is blurry, as Lantis himself tells Hikaru. With the added knowledge that in Cephiro those with strong hearts can live for extended periods of time, changing their appearances at leisure, his age can vary from  several decades to several centuries. At the most 700 years, since Clef admits (at the beginning of the manga) that he himself is 745 years.  Lantis is a quiet and private man but undeniably strong, in heart, body and mind. Such is clearly hinted at by both Master Mage Clef (who believes that Lantis has enough power to equal that of his older brother Zagato and perhaps even surpass it) and Debonair (who makes no secret of the fact that his heart is 'fearfully strong' and that she wants him for his power, going as far as to send Nova to get him for herself).

Lantis is a powerful mage - having learned from Clef, his former master - and wields a sword skillfully enough to be considered a talented swordsman. This makes him the only Magic Swordsman in all of Cephiro.!~

~!During the second season, he falls in love with Hikaru and she with him; together they face the possibility of imminent distruction of Cephiro - who still lacks a pillar and is slowly crumbling - and surpass the obstacles set out in front of them: Nova, Debonair and the three invading countries.   He shares a deep friendship with Eagle of Autozam - leader of one of the major three invading forces - and doesn't wish to fight him for the sake of the pillar's crown.!~

A serious man of few words, Goat seems to be the crew&#039;s guardian.  He also has a relationship with Minato Haruka for some time.  He is very big and very strong, capable of carrying Megumi and Ruri, one on each arm, and is a skilled marksman.

Agito studies with Sho, Tetsuro and Mizuki in the same school. He is the adopted son of the former head of Chronos Japan.

Koetsuji Akisame is the philosophical Jujitsu master and doctor of Ryozanpaku who was an old friend of Miu's father, Fuurinji Saiga. He was also the the first master willing to train Kenichi (though he is the least considerate to Kenichi's feelings). Despite his seemingly small physique, he is actually known for having his muscles built to perfection. He also has very good insight on people, often knowing if they are troubled or hiding something; he sometimes even knows what a person is thinking, which scares Kenichi. He has no trouble using his friends as guinea pigs to come up with new techniques.   Akisame is also capable of speaking fluently in Russian.

Tama is a white tiger and Nagi's pet, he is from Africa, who was rescued by Nagi as a cub, and was raised on Matsuzaka beef and expensive tuna fish, making it incapable for him to go to the zoo or back to the wild. He can speak the human language, though he does not reveal this to Maria or Nagi because he doesn't want to shatter the young girl's dreams. He will lay his life down to protect Nagi, because his situation was a lot like Hayate's. To him, Maria is the highest power there is, followed by an impassable wall, Nagi, then himself, and everyone else is below him.   Despite the fact he is a white tiger, he was found by Nagi while she was exploring Africa. The mangaka admitted that he made a mistake when fans wrote to him pointing out there are no tigers in Africa. Usually when Tama is speaking or involved in a comical situation, he looks rather cartoony and, when standing on his hind legs, is about human size. He appears this way in most of his appearances, although he will occasionally be drawn in his actual size and appearance.

An entity of unknown origin or nature that reaps souls. His entire body, except for his left eye, is covered in bandages. It is formed by the materialization of astral around a powerful energy source known as the 'core', which is later stolen by a human he was trying to reap, which is later revealed to be Shiba. Not having a body, he is forced to reside in a super deformed state that Michiru thinks is adorable. However, as shown in chapter 41, he can temporarily transform into his original form as long as he is near Michiru. He is known by his associate Koume as Zarame-sama, which translates into English as 'Mr Sugar Candy', and has the ability to generate a scythe at will.   He can only speak in muffled, high-pitched, squeaky noises, due to the bandages across his mouth and his super deformed state, but both Michiru and Koume hear him as speaking normally, though most of what he says are threats or insults. Currently, he still does not have his 'core' back, but seems content to perch on Michiru's shoulder.

Joutarou is Holly Kujo's son and [Joseph Joestar](https://anilist.co/character/6356)'s grandson. In Part 3, he has a recognizable attire of a blue trenchcoat-length school uniform jacket with yellow chains on the collar. He also wears a trademark hat which, while torn in the back, often seems to blend with his hair. When Joutarou first appears, he turned himself in to the police because he believes his Stand is an evil spirit possessing him. After he is released from jail, and learns what his Stand is, Joutarou gets used to Star Platinum -- a fierce, muscular, vaguely Aztec-looking spirit with "the precision of a machine" and the ability to destroy virtually anything with a sledgehammer barrage of fists. He has a very tough exterior, and is even rather rough and delinquent, but he also is very dedicated, intense, and loyal. He is very intelligent, but usually lets his (or Star Platinum's) fists do the talking with the enemy, even though he often has to rely on his wits to deal with stand users' attacks. He is also known for a quick and short temper. His catchphrase is "Yare yare daze." It generally relates of being bored or exasperation. In Part 3, he is the main target of [Dio](https://anilist.co/character/4004), who realizes that Joutarou is his greatest threat.

One of the strongest stands in the JoJo universe; Star Platinum possesses super human senses, strength, stamina, accuracy and speed. It can see for great distances and at great magnifications. The Star tarot card that Star Platinum is named after symbolizes hope. Like other physically powerful stands, Star Platinum suffers from a narrow range of activity. It can only be active within a 2-3 meter radius from Joutarou. ~!It is similar to Dio's The World stand, and, it turns out, can likewise be used to stop time, but that ability is only revealed in Joutarou's epic battle with Dio Brando when Dio was about to drop a steamroller on him.!~

The governor of Dazaifu and commander of the Kyūshū division of the Red Army, Shidou is the Red King&#039;s cousin and closest confidant. While generally warm and genial, Shidou does not flinch from the grizzlier duties of leadership - he is a calculating and ruthless general who is said to leave mountains of corpses behind him on the battlefield.  Shidou is the first character to realize the full implications of Sarasa and Shuri&#039;s relationship, but he is killed before he can speak of it.

Dryden is Escaflowne's resident scruffy, bookish intellectual, irreverent to extremes and a master of sarcasm and verbal wit. Though egotistical, cynical, and downright cocky, he is deeply selfless and romantic. He is social and likes to talk with anybody on just about anything intellectual. He is quite possibly the most laid back character in the entire cast, and one of the precious few with a good sense of humor. He has a knack for irritating just about anybody with reserves or reverence for anything arbitrary, whether it be propriety, society, or the proper role of a father. Needless to say, he manages to nettle almost every single member of the cast at least once, some multiple times. His idea of flirting is flat-out advertising his assets (i.e. more or less "My intellect is second-to-none, I'm freaking rich, and I'm good-looking."), if that gives a good idea of how brash he can be, but in his (very) few serious moments his courting methods turn to solemn vows. He takes a passionate interest in esoteric and arcane topics of study, such as Atlantis and Guymelefs, the latter of which he collects not for their military force, but for their integrity of construction. Not only is he a first-class nerd, but he is a first-class nerd with heaps of style. He is a noble-born rich boy, but he dresses as though he just stumbled out of bed, ties his hair back messily, and wears the coolest glasses I have ever seen, period. He is somebody who can make you laugh and who can still laugh at himself and life, no matter how desolate things may seem or how many people he will piss off.  Dryden is the son of a jerk of an Astorian noble, Meiden Fassa, and runs his own lucrative merchant airship convoy. His father arranged for him to marry the princess of Astoria, Millerna Aston, a headstrong and intelligent woman with whom he fell in love and spent a great deal of the show trying to win, unsuccessfully. After their rather eventful wedding day and after realizing that she was still in love with Allen Schezar, he allowed Millerna to leave, no strings attached, with the promise that he would become a man worthy of her love. The question of whether or not Dryden ends up winning Millerna is unanswered by the end of the show. Dryden becomes king of Astoria after their marriage, which is fortunate considering that at the end of the war a far more competent king than Aston is in the throne. He is willing to negotiate with and listen to Folken after he leaves Zaibach, and he displays pacifist tendencies; the core of his strategic response to the Zaibach threat is economic sanctions. In the first scene in which he appears, he is allowing his pet mermaid, Sylvie, to go free after a goodbye kiss, despite his manager's protests regarding her monetary cost, to which Dryden replies "Don't be so frugal." He sold his entire merchant convoy to the Ispano to pay for Escaflowne's repair job and, in effect, Van's life, much to the distress of the manager who keeps flitting around and freaking out every time Dryden does something so liberal. Dryden was the narrator of Leon Schezar's diary as the party searched for Atlantis, and in the process managed to get on Allen's bad side. No surprise. Asuma is the leader of Team 10 (Nara Shikamaru, Yamanaka Ino, Akimichi Chouji), Kurenai's lover and the son of the third Hokage. 

Asuma smokes often but despite that, his skills are respected. He primarily uses Chakra Blades and can quickly dispatch his foes when the situation warrants. He is also proficient in Wind and Fire elements.

He was the pirate captain of the all fishman crew, the Arlong Pirates, a former member of the Sun Pirates, and the older brother of [Madam Shyarly](https://anilist.co/character/40274). He is known for being the main villain in the Arlong Arc and had the highest bounty in East Blue before being defeated by [Monkey D. Luffy](https://anilist.co/character/40). Like many other One Piece characters, he has his own unique laugh, which is "Shahahahaha."

Arlong considers humans to be inferior beings and is very cruel to them. He is keen to separate his race from humans, and has the mentality that his people are superior to humans in every way. He thinks nothing of killing a town full of humans, although he seems to prefer controlling people with money and deals.  He has an eye for spotting exploitable talent that he can use for his goals and is an excellent planner. He spent eight years using [Nami](https://anilist.co/character/723) and her maps to plan his takeover of the East Blue. Nevertheless, any promise about money he makes, he keeps. However, even though Arlong states he can't go back on his word, he has no qualms about exploiting loopholes in his deals to unfairly get his way.

He is also quick to anger, and has been ill-tempered since his younger years. He wasn't always entirely brutal, but it was later shown that he had grown more arrogant over time to the point that he completely had no sympathy for humans. However, he displays a high level of brotherhood with his crew and even towards Nami despite her species divide. Arlong looks after his crew members and even though he betrayed Nami, he did so because he didn't want to lose her talent.  Arlong would never harm his fellow fishmen no matter the circumstance and cares for his crew a lot.

Charles Beams is a freelance LFO pilot and mercenary, with his partner and wife Ray. Initially content in his life of transporting goods and people, as well as fighting thieves and raiders, he is brought into conflict with Gekkostate when the Beams are hired by the military to retrieve Eureka and the Nirvash from them. He and his wife were also part of SOF, and they share a past with Holland, Dewey, and Adrock.   Charles is personally humorous and easygoing, but under his genial exterior he&#039;s still as much a killer as he was while leading an elite force. He has many dualities like this in his life &mdash; for instance, he displays a collection of high-tech ref boards in his living quarters aboard the Swan, but in battle he always keeps an old bolt-action rifle (possibly a Mauser Karabiner 98k) by his side. It is at least somewhat more advanced than it appears, as the rounds are capable of piercing LFO armor.
