Yamato is a character in the anime and manga series Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02 and Digimon Adventure tri. He is a DigiDestined, partnered with Gabumon, and the bearer of the Crest of Friendship. He is the older brother of Takeru Takaishi.

Yamato starts as a secretive loner with a cool demeanor. He is mature, thoughtful and level-headed, and more likely to think things through than charge head-on. He is a deeply caring person who will do anything for a friend and is very protective of his loved ones. He is prone to second-guessing and self-deprecation when he cannot protect others—his self-worth hinges on his ability to be a good friend. Unlike Tai, who is more willing to look at the "big picture", sometimes to the detriment of his friends, Yamato always tries to focus on the good of his small circle of friends. As a teenager, he is more laid-back and easygoing and is more willing to support his friends risking themselves against enemy Digimon. However, he still reacts strongly when his friends are under pressure, such as when the news depicted the team's Digimon as monsters, and Tai became reluctant to defend their reputation due to fears about possible casualties. He is also a good singer. 

Yamato's younger brother, Takeru Takaishi, is also one of the eight DigiDestined, but their parents are divorced and so they cannot spend much time together. He is very protective of Takeru and often acts harshly when Takeru is in trouble. After their adventures in the Digital World, their relationship becomes closer, and Matt trusts T.K. more, acknowledging his burgeoning independence.

He has the nickname of &quot;The Unsinkable Battleship&quot;, which is coincidentally the nickname of professional wrestler Stan Hansen who is extremely popular in Japan.    His cronies believe that he hates jokes, since he's always so serious. In truth, he is a connoisseur of sophisticated humor, despising the sophomoric jokes that his friends prefer.

Outside, he calls Jin a traitor and rushes him (apparently failing to notice that Jin is exuding a level of fury rarely found outside the eye-walls of hurricanes...) only to get quickly and soundly beaten. Jin spares his life so he can report back to the other avengers, and Ogura slinks off with his tail between his legs. (In episode 16, Yukimaru says that he killed himself in shame.) !~

Kirk Hamill is the director of the development department of Mao Industries, and helped create the Gespenst series. Rob is his best friend, and co-worker. He was married to Marion Radom, but they got a divorce due to her not liking the way he acted.

A legendary, strong-willed Convoy, said to have a particularly apparent sense of justice. Originally the head of a planetary exploration ship, Axalon, he ends up pursuing Beast Megatron to Earth (referred to him and his peers as "Energoa"). Normally, his alternate mode is a gorilla.

In the Beast Wars II tie-in movie, he comes out of a time-space warp in order to aid Lio Convoy and friends in their fight against the forces of Galvatron and Majin Zarak.

In the Legends manga, he's the president of **Axalon Trading Company** (アクサロン商事) and takes on a much more comedic personality.
