It is 2911 and the solar system is made up of of 50 planets. I.C Blues, a gambler, makes a bet with the boss of a criminal syndicate known as Bloody God that it is possible to navigate the whole solar system in one year. Helping out Blues is J9-III, made up of Rock, Beat, and Birdy. To clear any obstcles, they have the transforming train-robot Sasuraiger. But the Bloody Syndicate will do anything to ensure the Blues loses the bet.

600 years ago, J9 roared through the Solar System to fight evil and get rich. Now things are worse than ever, as lawlessness threatens to overcome the fragile ruling government and an alien fleet from outer space arrives to upset the balance even more. Amid the chaos, old friends Digo and Schutecken found the Cosmo Rangers, an updated J9, to combat crime in the asteroid belt and beyond. But even with talented members like Billy the Shot, Jumping Sama, and Lila the Immortal Butterfly, they quickly get in over their heads as their group expands to the size of an army and they become the guardians of a crumbling government.

A private organization called "GDW Project" announced that they are producing an anime which is related to the J9 anime trilogy, which aired in the early 80's. 
 
As the representative of GDW Project, Yu Yamamoto posted a message to the Facebook page, stating that the new series will have a "J9 taste" but include entirely new characters and story. The previous series each adopted a different motif: the Hissatsu Series for Braiger, the Shinsengumi for Baxingar, and Around the World in 80 Days for Sasuraiger. Similarly, Ginga Jinpuu Jinraiger will use the Chinese classic novel Water Margin as its motif.
