In the anime, Zazie uses the identity of a young boy named &quot;Beeb&quot; as a disguise. He can control sand-worms with a high-frequency device he wears on his head.    The anime never exactly gives a clear explanation as to what Zazie was. It can be theorized that Zazie was a malevolent entity that took control of the boy whenever it needed to, that he was in fact a much older man who only looked like a young boy, or that he was actually a child assassin driven to the brink of insanity by his association with the Guns.    In the manga...   ~!his body is controlled by a collective of group-minded insects. These insects are the original inhabitants of the planet Gunsmoke and have formed an alliance with Knives to see whether humans or Plants are better to co-exist with. The insects that form Zazie also seem to represent the planet&#039;s consciousness, as represented by the sandworms he can control as well (Zazie has been referred to as the &#039;leader of the sandworms&#039; by Knives). His body is destroyed by Hoppered for spying on him and Midvalley. Zazie later reappears in the body of a teenage girl. In Trigun Maximum 11 this body is destroyed as well after trying to implant an insect in Knives to control him. Zazie reappears one last time as an odd-looking man in disco-clothing in order to deliver his coin to Vash. It is revealed that these bodies are human, but are controlled by a small worm-like creature that lives inside it, similar to the one Zazie tried to implant in Knives. When the hive is destroyed by Knives, the man spits out the creature and has no memories of his time as host to Zazie.!~    His Gung-Ho Gun number is 12 in the manga, and 4 in the anime. Vash the Stampede is a wanted man with a habit of turning entire towns into rubble. The price on his head is a fortune, and his path of destruction reaches across the arid wastelands of a desert planet. Unfortunately, most encounters with the spiky-haired gunslinger don't end well for the bounty hunters who catch up with him; someone almost always gets hurt - and it's never Vash. 
 
Oddly enough, for such an infamous fugitive, there's no proof that he's ever taken a life. In fact, he's a pacifist with a doughnut obsession who's more doofus than desperado. There's a whole lot more to him than his reputation lets on - Vash the Stampede definitely ain't your typical outlaw.

Much of the damage attributed to "Vash" is caused by the activities of bounty hunters who are after the 60,000,000,000$$ (sixty billion "double dollars") reward on Vash's head for the destruction of a city called July. Vash does not clearly remember the destruction of July, and only wants "love and peace", as he puts it; though he is a gunfighter of inhuman skill, he uses his weapons only to save lives wherever he can. 
As the series progresses, more is gradually learned about Vash's mysterious history and the history of the human civilization on Gunsmoke, the desert planet the series is set on. The series is often humorous in tone, but at the same time it involves very serious character development and especially in later episodes it becomes quite emotionally intense. Vash is occasionally joined by a priest, Nicholas D. Wolfwood, who is almost as good a gunfighter as Vash himself, and later is targeted by a band of assassins known as the Gung-Ho Guns for reasons which are mysterious at first. 
Trigun evolves into a very serious discussion of the nature of morality, posing questions such as: What is the nature of morality? Can we judge different moral codes? If a person is forced to betray their moral code, does that betrayal invalidate that moral code, and can the person still try to live up to that moral code? Can the person find redemption from their wrongs, and if so, how?
