Naetle is a small, light green, quadruped Pokémon resembling a turtle or tortoise. Its eyes, feet, and lower jaw are yellow. Its body is covered by a brown shell that is composed of earth. The shell has a thick black stripe and a black rim. On a very healthy Naetle, the shell should feel moist. A small seedling grows on a brown patch on its head. This seedling will wilt if the Pokémon becomes thirsty. As a plant-based Pokémon, Naetle usually nourishes itself through photosynthesis. It also drinks water, which hardens its soil-based shell.

After defeating Brandon and declining the offer to be a Frontier Brain, Ash sets off to travel through the far away land of Sinnoh. Once he gets there, he meets up with Hikari, a local trainer from the region, and they decide to travel together.

James Carter Cathcart, often credited as Carter Cathcart or Jimmy Zoppi, was an American voice actor, bassist and vocalist. He's best known for voicing Gary in Pokémon as well as James, Meowth and Professor Oak since Season 9. He is also known for voicing Vector in Sonic X.

On April 17th, 2023, he announced on his CaringBridge page that he will be retiring from voice acting and script adapting after Pokémon Journeys: The Series has finished, following his diagnosis with throat cancer in late January 2023.

James Carter passed away on July 8, 2025. News of his death was shared on July 11, 2025. His wife, Martha Jacobi, posted [the announcement on Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/martha.jacobi/posts/10237042969514501) that day, and Erica Schroeder, who was the voice actor of Nurse Joy and Bianca, also offered her condolences in an Instagram post.
