Youko is the female lead of the series. She has two main abilities. The first is jaen where she shoots a coiling strand of fire out of her fingertips. There is also dai-jaen which is just a larger, more powerful variation. The second ability is shukichi, an ability which allows her to teleport objects. Strangely enough, although she is generally fearless in the face of evil spirits, she is terrified of normal dogs. During an escape from Hake, she met the child Keita, who was with her for three days and shared his chocolate cake with her, which became one of her favorite things. Due to this incident, she wanted to become Keita&#039;s inukami to make a contract with him. Youko has feelings for Keita and she gets angry whenever he flirts with other girls.

Kawahira Keita is a descendant of a historic Inukami tamer family. However, because he lacked in its ability, he was forsaken by the family. One day, an Inukami named Youko came. She looked graceful, obedient, above all, beautiful. Soon he contracted with her, and she paid homage to him. However, she was a problematic Inukami that no one had been able to control. 
This is a slap stick comedy of an Inukami Tamer, Keita and an Inukami, Youko. Keita is a man of worldly passions, and he likes money and girls very much. On the other hand, Youko likes to destroy things and is very jealous.

She is a voice actress and singer currently affiliated with vims. She hosts a radio show called "Horie Yui no Tenshi no Tamago" (堀江由衣の天使のたまご "Yui Horie's Angel Eggs") and is the founding member of the singing group, Aice5. She is also a member of the band Kurobara Hozonkai, with the name YUIEL. Her hobbies include shoulder massaging, reading and eating. She has been affectionately nicknamed "Hocchan" (ほっちゃん) by her Japanese fans.

Played at Dengeki Bunko's Movie Festival on 21 April 2007 before the Shakugan no Shana, Inukami! and Kino no Tabi movies. It was later released on DVD and sold at Dengeki's 15th Anniversary event.

Inukami: a sacred being with a dog-like appearance that forges a contract with a powerful human tamer to help them eliminate evil monsters and demons.

It has been adapted into a manga by artist Matsuzawa Mari and into an anime by Seven Arcs.
