Chihiro is the dorm teacher of Sakurasou Dormitory and an art teacher of Suiko. Despite being a teacher, Chihiro is lazy and only cares about drinking alcohol and trying to date men. Despite being a teacher, she often gives Sorata improper advice. She is Mashiro's cousin and is the one who arranges the transfer, but she forces Sorata to take care of Mashiro due to her laziness. She was a conscientious student of Suiko, and wanted to become a professional artist, but she changed and became an art teacher for unknown reasons instead.

The first time he saw her, it was love at first sight. Unfortunately for Sorata Kanda, "she" was a cat named Hikari and his school's rules forbid keeping pets in the regular dorms. As a result, Sorata is banished to the infamous Sakura Hall alongside other troublesome and unusual students like Jin, overzealous playboy, Ryuunosuke, the reclusive hermit, and Mashiro, a brilliant artist who's so unfocused and clueless about the real world that dorm supervisor Ms. Sengoku assigns Sorata the task of taking care of her along with his ever-growing collection of stray cats!<br>

Kanda Sorata is a second year high school art student who was recently kicked out of the school's dorm because he was found keeping a cat in his room. Sorata begins to live in the apartment house "Sakurasou", infamous for its eccentric residents. Here, Sorata is asked to take care of one of his classmates, Shiina Mashiro. Although she is a brilliant, world-class painter, she is extremely clumsy and lacking in common sense.  And thus begins the story of the master and his pet.

After being kicked out of the main dorms for bringing in a stray cat, Kanda Sorata is forced to live in the smaller Sakura Halls where problem students are sent to live. Although he doesn&rsquo;t mind his roommates, Sorata can&rsquo;t wait to move out of Sakura Halls. But when Shiina Mashiro moves into the dorm, everything changes. Mashiro is an artistic genius who, at a young age, won many awards for her skills, but due to her childhood being so focused on art, she has no common sense and social skills. Forced to take the role of taking care of Mashiro, Sorata learns about himself and begins on a path of self improvement.<br><br>
