The protagonist of Demonbane, Kurou Daijuuuji is a financially poor detective and former secret division student of Miskatonic University. He&#039;s hired by the Hadou Financial Group to hunt for the most powerful Grimoire. In his search, he comes face to  face with a grimoire himself named Al Azif. In a fit of desperation, Al creates a pact between the two, choosing Kurou as her sorcerer. He discovers that she is the original Necronomicon he was looking for. Kurou becomes incredibly powerful when he uses Al&#039;s magic, allowing him to pilot the Dues Machina, Demonbane. Kurou&#039;s name is the Japanese romanization equivalent of the name Titus Crow, the main character in a set of horror fiction novels written by Brian Lumley.

Kuro Daijuuji is a poor detective living in Arkham City. One day, he was requested by Ruri Hado of Hado Financial Group, to search for a magic book. While he initially refused, Ruri offered him a large sum of money upon completion of her request, in which bribed Kuro to accept. As Kuro searches for the book, he unexpectedly runs into Al, a pretty girl that is actually a powerful grimoire. They forge a contract with each other, bestowing Kuro with powerful magic. Soon afterwards, Al also activates Demonbane, a deus machina owned by the Hado Financial Group, to combat the mechanical menace from the Black Lodge. With this, the war between the Hado Financial Group and the Black Lodge begins....
